German cars are a hit or miss, some models can last you a really long time and some just are piles of crap. I can honestly say from my other 2 cars being German that they're not as bad as people make them out to be, they just cost more to maintain. My '13 ML350 has almost 80,000 miles on the clock with nothing but regularly scheduled maintenance done and a $250 check engine light 10K miles ago for a TCM fix, the car is also built like an absolute tank which is the kind of build quality I don't see in other cars. I also have a BMW M550i right now too so I can't comment on that because it's too new, but my previous 550i also treated me the same, just maintained the car meticulously and all was good. I think the biggest misconception is that people often buy $50K+ German cars and expect it to cost as much to maintain as a Civic, well news flash, it doesn't. But these days, most German cars only require maintenance every 10K miles, so it's actually not that bad anyway, you just gotta take the bullet on the maintenance expense, but so far it hasn't done me wrong.

As far as the STI vs. Si stuff goes though, most people have already said what I would have said anyway, but i'll agree on the part where someone said the CTR is ugly as fuck. I get trying to style a car aggressively, but the CTR just way too overstyled IMO. Not to mention that at that price point, I'd rather have something like a 460 HP mustang GT that's RWD and sounds like a bat out of hell.
If I could comment on the last part about the CTR, I agree it is over styled, and I would never buy one. But on that note, everything about it's styling is about functionality, from the over styled wing to the three exhausts. These were not all styled for looks. I would take it over a Mustang any day of the week because it would out last it, and kill it on any type of twisty road. That being said, if I was spending CTR type money I would get a Lexus IS350...a used one

I havent heard many issues from the MK7 community. I think they are doing much better in terms of quality and reliability then previous models, I scouted the MK7 forums and facebook groups because I came very very close to pulling the trigger on a MK7 over my Si and the only reason I went with the Si was because I got a much better price out the door. VW did not want to work with me much on the pricing but had this been when the 2019 models rolled out I may have been in a GTI right now with the nice power increase they got and now the entry level model comes with LSD its hard to pass on and those things respond so well to those APR flash tunes. In previous years you had to either get a package that gave you lsd or upgrade to the model that has the updated leather interior and tech to be able to get the LSD and that model was much more then the Si. Also they have a pretty damn decent warranty on those cars at the moment I believe its 6 years / 72k miles

Trust me, you did the right thing. It is not always about power and speed. A candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long

They did...the Honda Accord Sport. It's the same engine as the CTR, but detuned....

EDIT.....

I take that back, the Accord is a Sedan. My bad
Please stop spreading this "detuned CTR motor" crap.

It's not.

This is one of the most prevalent [false] myths of the current generation of Hondas.

Different rotating assembly, different turbo, different cams.

Sure they share the same castings for the block, but they're not the same.

I mean, let's compare 289 and 302 fords, or 305 and 350 chevy's cause they use the same casting.

It's not just an electronic detune.

if you want to play with subarus in an si then play with brz.. you can walk away casually from them and their drivers always seem to think they will win.
You can play with stock-ish WRX and STI's, but you will need a few mods. Well, unless you run into a unicorn stock bug eye.

You might want to tell that to Motor Trend, because that is what they say: https://www.motortrend.com/news/get-civic-type-r-power-on-your-2018-honda-accord-2-0t/ So when you reach the Motortrend editor, say hi from me

Posted on Ktuner thread

I had an "event" from a dig with a GTI last weekend, temps 11C, I don't know the extent of the GTIs mods, exhaust for sure. There was a Red Si Coupe behind the GTI when I pulled beside him. I bogged off the launch and he gained 5ft on me (front bumper to front bumper), boost hit and the tires started spinning but I was keeping pace with him through 1st gear. Grabbed second at redline...a bit too quick and the tires spun again but still staying with him. Grabbed 3rd and pulled even with him before we both had to back out. Ktuner Map 3 Sport Mode on the 19.5/23psi tune for me on my otherwise stock Si.

Takeaways

- The stock all-seasons suck, especially when it is cool/cold out...I'm really starting to hate them.
- NLS (if I had it enabled) would have helped the 1st to 2nd.
- Had we been able to go into 4th I would have smoked him on the top end.
- I really need to figure out launching this thing (not that I'm doing this at every stoplight)...
- The Advanced Traction Control is absolutely amazing. Just the right amount of wheelspin to keep the power levels up.
- KTuner rocks! Obviously.

Don't know what happened to the two ladies in the red Si Coupe...too bad I couldn't have put a better show on for them.

I had to opportunity to drive a 2019 STi from a coworker yesterday. Supposedly they "resolved" the ringland failure with different pistons. Anyway this was all stock. I was legitimately blown away on how peppy it is compared to previous year STis and my EvoX (when it was bone stock). Very fun. If I was 10 years younger, I would jump on it.

Styling no. I have grown out of "teenager car looks".
Mechanically, too early to tell. I'd like to see FBO numbers and ultimately what the max whp/trq is before the engine goes boom.
As far as current available new car market competition, yes.

Future market availability - the 2020 new focus rs.... hopefully comes in manual. the output will be insane.
