.Grimace build thread/ lap time & modification tracking

Welp long time no update. With the world going crazy and all tracks closed I kind of just forgot about modding it. With OnGrid hosting Thunderhill East bypass on 5/24 I finally get to go try out all of my latest changes. Supposed to be 91 degrees so I’m hoping that changes for the better, if nothing else it’ll be a good test of my changes.

Speaking of which I just ordered two 295/30/18 Advan A052 tires to try getting a little more clearance with this front setup. Also got the final version of my hood vents done. This was the last test fit we actually made them about 1/2” narrower so there is no paint showing. These should really help the vented hood get heat out of the engine bay... I hope.

I was really on the fence about these 295 fronts but after watching the last Best Motoring tuned CTRs vs Nismo GTR all 3 (Spoon, Seeker & J’s racing) are using a 295 front. I’m going to make it work. Also check out that video it’s pretty good! Plus look at all that meat

Following for more quality updates - really loving the placement of the second rad, I would like one there as well eventually if I run into overheating issues at the track

ive got some bad news... latest update is I returned it to stock and sold it.

I actually sold my 911 and F-150 as well. Bought a ridgeline and closing on a house in Maui on 8/1. Moving and no race track on Maui

they have a drag strip but meh

Kinda sad but also awesome bc Maui, congrats! Any closing thoughts on your FK8 and the mods you did and hoe it performed on track?

Thank you! Hmmm honestly it’s amazing car. If you’re buying it with the sole intention to track it I hope it never goes above 80 degrees where you live. Amazing street car with some occasional track days when the weather is nice. Otherwise get a c7 GS as your track car : P

Don't mean to get into your personal business, but what line of work are you in? I've been to Hawaii twice (1st time Oahu, 2nd time to Oahu & Maui) and I absolutely loved it. I lived in the NYC area for just over 10 years (working in the financial industry) and now pretty sick of it.

I manage a web design company. So basically anywhere there is internet I’m good to go. We actually looked at Paris but with this COVID nonsense decided maybe wait a bit.

only thing is I’ll have to be up at 5 or so every day but I get up at 7 now so it won’t be too bad.

because of all this Covid nonsense and having our first child we decided to stay in Reno to be near our parents for some help with him.
We rented out the Hawaii house for at least 2 years now and got another place in Reno. Getting a 2021 CTR and will be keeping this one in Reno or shipping it to Hawaii. I regretted selling it almost every day

Trying a different color this time. Got some 18x9.5” +44 bronze CE28s on order already woot woot

@Lust worked closely with PWR and C&R Racing race radiator and was first to try it out. I followed suit a short time after.

We both successfully tracked in 103-104F last summer, completing all laps... While I’m an intermediate level driver, did it on slow Streets of Willow, lacking long straightaways to help keep things cool.

Here’s a current list of available cooling mods I’m aware of. Essential items in bold. Thei rest probably can be considered optional, though they all probably help:

• PWR or C&R Racing race radiator
• Vented hood (Varis, J’s Racing, ICB or equivalent
• More open grill. 2020/2021 might be ok.
• Oil cooler. Prefer. HKS and C&R makes an upgraded core for it. Might need to do some extra mods to make a HKS work on a 2020-2021 due to Honda sensing. C&R is also working on their own oil cooler. @Lust has been keeping us updated.
• PWR/C&R Racing Intercooler or equivalent.
• Acuity reverse radiator hoses. Claim of 4F of cooling.
• Dream Automotive oil return clamshell heatshield
• Dream hard lagged turbo heat shield (new)
• Dream hard lagged water pipe (new). This might become a bold item
• Dream hard lagged high flow catted DP or equivalent
• RV6 ceramic coated FP or equivalent

That water pipe one is too funny. Back when I had mine and was doing the DP I saw that pipe was right there and getting cooked. All I had at the time was reflective gold tape to cover it with but knew it was definitely an issue.

2021 CTR is supposed to be here tomorrow woot woot! Probably driving it straight to carmax for a small profit of $1300 or so DOH.

Fellow CTR track buddy offered me his car at a killer price I just couldn't say no to. Keeping that under wraps until its finalized but just waiting on the banks now
