I tried pulling the 15a fuse marked 'Audio' under the hood. I believe it's #19. I then put the car into accessory mode for five minutes with the fuse pulled. Turned the car off, put the fuse back in and started the car. I got two messages on the HU. One about the anti theft system and then one about the GPS. Unfortunately the crashes continue, though there seems to be more time in between them. I saw as long as 10 minutes before the screen would crash to black.

I plan on stopping by the dealer again tomorrow, and hoping they'll do something. Sometimes when I reboot from a crash, I can't choose another audio source. I'm hoping that'll be some fodder to have them look further into it. I think there's not much more that I can do besides trying the 14.5 public beta.

I do have a wireless carplay adapter coming tomorrow to try also.

I should note the build number of the HU software is 1.F1A6.81

Sounds like this issue is widespread enough that Honda will eventually be compelled to fix it. Especially if it is also affecting the ’20+ normal Civic models as well. For now, avoiding Bluetooth entirely has significantly reduced the crashes. It will still reliably crash if I stop briefly, turn off the car with the phone still connected via cables, then restart without disconnecting the phone. The unit will be dead with a black screen. Manual reboot via the power button will bring it back to life, but it still won‘t output audio from any source including internal ones like FM radio until I turn off the car for long enough to kill power to the system (usually 5+minutes).

I see Honda has this number listed under ‘contact us.’ I may try this to see if they have any other suggestions:

My goto has been…

- Unplug iPhone
- Reboot car stereo
- Go into settings and delete the iPhone from the CarPlay list
- Plug it back in and answer the stupid first time questions again

Naturally this procedure suuuucks when you're driving because none of the "Smart Phone" things will let you do them while the car is in motion. Meanwhile, they let you turn Bluetooth off and on with impunity which is equally as dangerous as punching the "Always Enable" button. ?

And I've been running without Bluetooth enabled since about day 2. Still get random instability and crashes though. And always always with the reverse bug.

I did contact them at a different number given to me by the Honda dealer. They assigned me a case number and basically said they saw no campaigns or updates for the my model of car at this time.

Oh yeah, an Apple "Senior Support Specialist" is supposed to contact me tomorrow to discuss this, so maybe *they* can light a fire under Honda.

EDIT: Also, @5inn, I got this adapter. And thanks for reporting back on the fuse trick!

That is the other thing. It is possible that Apple can solve the issue from their end as well. If anyone here was on the betas, it would have been wroth submitting a bug report about it.

I reached out to that Honda number I posted above. The person was very nice, but said I had tried everything that they would have suggested.

Plan will be dealer and escalate to Honda corp if they are no help, but crossing my fingers.

So the wireless CarPlay dongle definitely does seem to do the trick. I think in large part because it takes a hell of a long time to spool up so the stereo has a lot of time to get its act together. I drove for about an hour and a half and did 3 reverse on startups and a couple other random startups and it never choked.

The one downside is there are some hiccups in the music where you get a tenth of silence interjected and the the song and then it resumes. But I'll take that ANY day over no music, no nav, no text messaging…

He put a link to it:
"this adapter"

I bought a similar one. Should be here today.

I dropped my car off to the dealer today. Had a more helpful SA who suggested they would be trying disconnecting battery and holding the terminals together for 5-10 minutes. I think from my reading this will do the same thing as me pulling the fuse, but time will tell. CarPlay did work for me today for a solid 20 minutes. That's new record for me.

Picked the car up from the dealer. The SA told me they connected the battery terminals and did a factory reset of the HU. They also plugged in a bunch of their own, different phones and couldn't replicate the issue.

I was pleasantly surprised that on my ~40min ride home, Carplay did not crash even once. I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch but I was pleasantly surprised. My wireless carplay adapter also arrived today. It may be returned if Carplay continues to be trouble-free.

Well that would be awesome if true! The first time I connect up a phone after a reset it seems to behave better too though, so I feel like once it knows your phone, the second time is going to be the true test… ?

Meanwhile, I was on the phone with Apple for an hour today and they took a ton of info and the engineering team is supposed to look into it and get back to my contact within 4 business days. Also, my drives to and from work today were uneventful. Not a single crash since going wireless.

I've heard that if your phone is connected to your home wifi when you start your car that you can have problems with the wireless adapters. Have you experienced anything like that?

Been having plenty of issues with my infotainment system and CarPlay. It tells me the wrong time, connects to my phone through CarPlay and then randomly disconnects, or sometimes it won't connect at all. Is there anything I can do other than rebooting it? Rebooting doesn't even work half the time, I have to pull over, turn the car off, then turn back on. If I'm lucky it will start working again for. Not gonna lie this infotainment system is garbage.

I noticed the wrong time on mine also. I would try pulling the fuse, touching the battery terminals together, or bringing it to the dealer.
