have drastically unrealistic expectations from the mass-produced econobox that is the LX.
True statement But not just a enconobox LX I’ve seen owners with BMWS and Mercedes have multiple problems and a lot of them are mass produced like a civic I’ve posted this before it a machine that is mass produced a lot of issues go on in a assembly line but by the most they try to get the best quality product too the public unfortunately some of those problem issues go thru unseen to a later time ( like most Chrysler products) but once again it’s a machine It’s like buying a washing machine or TV
they have problems too. I’ve worked on assembly lines and I’ve seen a lot of issues

so here we have it: remember when I said the maintenance minder is bs... well...

The car felt funny and my MPG was lower. I had an oil change around 22k before my trip to TN and asked them to check the air filter and if it needs it. I also asked if I need it around 15k and was also told the minder will tell me. I was assured it will tell me when I need it or it can be changed at 30k. Guess what, I when to check it and is black!

Great! The people at the service department are robots that follow input from the minder, but then again... remember mine was reset so ... yeah it would not record proper info in the first place!
never seen a filter so black, guess that dirty CALI SMOG is to blame. maybe change that thing out every 20k miles instead of every 100k miles.

Most small towns and cities have disgusting air that nobody cares about because we are not supposed to know or care according to the taxing authorities. Just pay the money and shut-up. Older diesels for example produce many tons of nice, black soot

Read through this whole thread and it makes me glad that I did not get a manual lx but seriously folks some of these cars have issues that are just pure frustration, either from poor engineering or from dealers saying “can not duplicate the problem”or “that is normal”

I own a 2017 civic EX that we bought certified with 37K, I did my research and found it to be rated excellent and well we needed a good compact car for my son for school. It was the right price so we bought it.

The driving dynamics are wonderful compared to my prius prime. They did a great job with the handling for a 4 door but the build quality is god awful. I ended up adding felt to quell rattles and sound reducing material to quiet the ride. This car is noisy again compared to my prius prime.

The CVT is god awful when cold but as it warns up it tends to act better. I dont see it lasting over 100k but I dont want to judge that yet,

as far as oil changes and tire rotations, I do that every 5k no matter what. I do not buy into that matainance monitor garbage as oil oil is cheep enough. As far as brake fluid I have a tester that tells me if it has water in it or it needs to be changed. CVT fluid I will do at 60k and every 30K after, Honda has always had very finicky automatics as I learned quickly from friends of mine with v6 accords.

It has been in the dealer twice for a/c issues that are well documented in this board. I just had it in a 3rd time and was handed a 3500 dollar estimate for condenser and a new compressor. Did not get that done as the car is just not worth it to me. A half a can of refrigerant and it is cold again for now. I am bringing it to an ac specialist shop to have them use there sniffer on it to actually find the leak. Another independent stated it was the new refrigerant and the seals they used, I have had several cars including fords, Chrysler’s, and Toyota’s, none of them having ac issues at 4 years old.

some of you are saying .. well its an econobox what do you expect? A Yaris/fiesta/fit/versa are econoboxes.. all under 20k. This car is 25k new which for literally 500 dollars more an accord can be had. when you start putting leather and other amenities in it is almost 30k. I expect simple things like ac to work If I am going to sink 25-30k into a car.

If you want to retain me as a customer, and you have a known problem or problems with your product then you take care of it either at no charge or you extend the warentee on the said failure.. This is why when one poster said Lexus bends over to make there customers happy, it is the absolute truth, and why many many Lexus owneers will not own anything but, even when there are more advanced luxury cars out there. That is why at this time, I can not recommend a honda civic to anyone I know

I love my car but, yes, the build quality is inferior. Shockingly so. I had been away from Honda for a while and when I bought my $26K EX-L in 2017, the build quality had me shaking my head. My biggest issues are rattles that don't quit, giant panel gaps and the worst paint I've ever seen.

Bru87tr

I check my filters all the time. If still good I bang the crap out and put it back.

Other than the AC issue, I haven’t had any other issues with my LX.

Giant panel gaps -- why is anyone complaining about this? They were there from the beginning when you first saw the car. Obviously didn't bother you enough to avoid the car.

They were cooked into the design.

I don't believe Honda has been diligent in monitoring the quality of parts from its vendors. There's no excuse for the problems with the A/C components.

I am not as concerned about panel gaps as if I think they are excessive then I move on, but as others have said, the paint quality is more to be desired. I had to do a paint correction on the car when I first got it. I thought it was just because it was used.

So what vendors is honda using? if they are using nippon -denso for the a/c items then the same items are being used in toyota‘Lexus products. How come they are not having massive ac issues? I think it is more of a design issue given to the manufacturer

The only thing I really hate about this gen civic is the interior hard plastics you can't leave keys or coins cause they will rattle like a 1980s car.
AND

I I just want to say that this is one of my favorite threads in the whole forum...no offense to the OP, of course. Just the comedic aspect.

Honda Civic 10th gen I will never buy a HONDA again! signal-2021-06-02-174602_001

Civic is no more. I was due for 60k service and decide to pay the fee to diagnose my clunk when turning the steering wheel. Of course while under warranty all was OK, but now I was told is the steering rack and it will cost 2056 in parts and around 500 in labor. Also my Air Con started to make a whirling noise and its seems that is the precursor to the AC going out as in the previous recall but mine is not included. I will miss the radar cruise, decent ride and the fabulous MPG!

Its sad that my first experience in this brand was total let down!

I went back to Mitsu since I had good luck with them, not as good on MPG but is great to sit up high, great LED lights all around!

Just never ever buy a car without test driving it before.

Since you drove a Prius before, what's so awful about the Civic CVT compared to the Prius CVT?

I want to drive mine longer than 100k miles and we already have a few people here with more than 100k miles:

I got rid of my 2020 si because of paint quality, over sensitive honda sense, shifting issues and other issues I'm not remembering. I only had 9k miles when I sold it.

I acutally liked the radar cruise but lane keep assist was weird. What were your shifting issues?

We did test drive the car but a mile down the road and back will never ever tell you very much. This was pre covid so we were not given the car alone.

I am glad you asked that question because mechanically they are different. The prius uses an E-CVT which is just a planetary gear set to link the electric motors with the gas motor. It’s not a traditional CVT and delivers power smoothly.

this CVT has a delay and has a rubber band feeling when cold until it warms up. So for the first 5 or so min of driving it feels jerky and like it is going to fall apart. After that it seems to be fine and reacts somewhat normal. Maybe it is fluid related? Maybe bad prorgramming? Maybe expecting too much.. not sure... I can tell you it does not compare to a prius prime or regular prius in terms of smoothness.
