Long story short, sometime over the weekend someone tapped me, didn’t leave a note because they are a royal fucking asshole, and my 2 1/2 week old car has some battlefield scars.

Thankfully it’s really minor. Just some light paint transfer it seems and minor scratches. No dents or missing clips thankfully. I don’t know much about fixing these kind of things. Some people say I can use toothpaste and others say to buy a kit. Anyone have any experience with this?

Also I cannot figure out how they managed to do this. I did park at a bunch of places on Saturday which is where I believe it happened. I’m guessing they pulled in too shallow or they misjudged backing up.

Try to use rubbing compound or a scratch remover first then finish it off with a wax.
Any suggestions on good brands/products to use?

For light scratches or chips, Dr.ColorChip works pretty well. I used it on a paint chip at trunk opening. It's a relatively inexpensive repair to make paint damage not noticeable.

I just removed some similar looking marks on my friends CRV. Rubbing alcohol took the marks off quickly and easily. It was paint transfer. May work for you...worth a try.

+1 For turtle wax. Just be very light with it and don't rub it on like it's going out of style. Use a clean microfibre cloth and small amounts of the turtle wax.

Yeah my worries is I'll rub too hard and end up making it worse, but I've got such little strength behind me (eventually I'll do strength and resistance training...) that I doubt I could rub too hard if I tried.

Just normal rubbing alcohol? You use a microfiber cloth with that too?

You'd be surprised. Ask me how I know.

Try polish first. If that doesn't work maybe a mild polishing compound. Follow that up with some sealant/wax.

I wouldn't use high% rubbing alcohol as it can be detrimental to clearcoat depending on different factors. I just did a IPA wipedown on my civic this weekend prior to ceramic coating it and even then your supposed to dilute it down to like 15%, 25% at the most.

I've cleaned up similar marks on my other cars with an orbital buffer and just some general rubbing compound. It might not be perfect but it should get it pretty close to where you wouldn't be able see it unless your like 6" from it.

I second the Dr Colorchip method. Also some of those could be buffed out with a polish or scratch X rubbing compound.

Little bit of compound then polish or just straight to polish. They don't look that bad. Price out PPF for real protection.
