Best fun to drive yet reliable and family friendly used car?

Looking to buy the best possible fun to drive yet reliable and family friendly used car under $16k
Auto transmission
Nothing too large nor subcompact...
what do you recommend?
My wife wants it to be reliable and not super expensive (she is the primary driver) and I want it to be fun (I'll be driving it sometimes) I want Chevy Volt for a sake of being plug in hybrid (I used to own Model S and want that feeling back not buying gas anymore) we have newborn and toddler, so 2 car seats and twice the junk
Anything you guys recommend?
We already have 2016 Civic sedan and 2020 Odyssey

We were looking at Golf Alltrak, Accord Sport, IS 250/350 in various years to fill this role. Still not sure if we're going that way or just breaking down and getting a Sienna or Odyssey. At the moment, the boss still dailies an 07 Accord 5spd

My cousin loved his Volt but got rid of it for a ZL1. That thing was like a moon shuttle

They do, and they can come with the 6 speed manual. (The boss likes to row her own gears)
