Torque steer with smaller wheel size

Hi folks,

When the Conti's wear out (I am at 2300 miles, so I figure I am 1/3 of the way through them!), I want to go to a smaller wheel size, 18 or 19's. I am tired of trying to dodge the massive pot holes and terrible pavement we have in this part of the world, with that ribbon of rubber on the stock wheels as pretty pitiful protection.

I had read something somewhere that some of the 'magic' behind eliminating torque steer on the CTR is the wheel/tire size combination of the OEM's. for folks who have dropped down a size or two, is this a concern?

We suggest going for the 18's. The tire selection is much better and more compliant with the size. We have not seen any negative results from dropping down in size.

The size should not be a factor provided all 4 corners are the same size...the offset will be. When moving the over all footprint out from OEM (lower offset number from 60) this will increase torque steer. The closer to the OEM offset the less torque steer you will see. The lower the number the more torque steer you will see.

When moving the over all footprint out from OEM (lower offset number from 60) this will increase torque steer. The closer to the OEM offset the less torque steer you will see. The lower the number the more torque steer you will see.
Ah, that explains quite a bit regarding all the chatter I have seen regarding offsets on various threads relating to aftermarket wheels. Thanks very much for the explanation!

I dropped down from 20's et60 to 18x9 et 42 no noticeable difference in torque steer and i driven on the track several times.

I got the Bimmerworld TEAL wheels 18x9 et 42. I don't think they have anymore though.

QFT. However, I've seen/heard that different offsets haven't made as big a difference as people have been afraid of. If you want it to be a hundo, stick with factory offset. But Honda was pretty clever and have done a good job negating torque steer, even if you change the wheels. It may not be perfect, but it will be pretty good as far as I've seen.

I'm brainstorming to digest the whole idea.

So:
On 18", tire size 245/40 gives you the same speed reading.
And "the closer you get with to the stock offset, the less TQ steering you will have", but then what about those tires such as 255, 265 size? they run with an smaller offsets: does it matter, so you will have more tire contact but with more TQ steering?
