90% could also mean 99.9999%. Your fine.
Naa, I think >95% would show as 100% and 85-95% would show up as 90%.

Either way, OP shouldn't think too deep on this. Even if only 250ish miles were driven, aa many have stated previously, this Oil life meter is calcuated as a function of time and driving habits, in addition to mileage.

That makes sense. I guess I just never put much thought into it and just had it in my head that they just drop the single digit and display the tens. So 80-89% would show 80%. But yours makes more sense.

Did you idle alot? It counts both miles driven and engine running time.
Yeah I’ve been idling frequently during my lunch breaks at work, for about 20 mins each day having the heater on

That is your problem. I too idle about 30 minutes each day with ac on during lunch over the summer. I only got 4 months out of an oil change then. I drive about 300 miles a week. During pandemic, I was at about 50% with 6000 miles driven without the lunch time idle over a 10 month period.

Idling excessively will eat oil life fast.

Roan, just so you know, the MM is different than the old days when there was a set oil change mileage/time from the manufacturer. I really like the way it works.

For example, we have guys here driving all highway miles and it doesn't even hit 15% after 8,000 miles. In my case, I do a fair amount of highway but probably nearly half of my miles are in the city with lots of idle time at lights. My MM oil change reminder (15%) usually pops up at around 4,500-5,000 miles.

I had the same thing happen a couple months ago. Got a used sport, changed the oil, saw it lose 10% real quick. I used a quality synthetic so, unless there are sensors that check for particulates in the oil, which I doubt, the % is just a ballparked estimate.

Personally I don't even pay attention to it. I change my oil somewhere around 5,500-6,500 miles. Do I need to? Probably not but I like that interval for rotating tires and do all of that at the same time. Where I live, the roads suck, it's very dry, hot and dusty.
