Pick a good quality synthetic oil and change it per the Maintenance Minder recommendations.
+1 - couldn't agree more.. I plan on doing the same with mine.
I plan to use Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum. Amsoil is another possibility.

Does anyone know what kind of oil came in the car to start with? If its not currently full synthetic I think I'll get mine changed soon.

It is full synthetic 0W-20 Idemitsu oil... It's a high molybdenum content oil, beside the molybdenum used upon initial engine assembly.

Anyone have an opinion on using MOBIL 1 0W20 EXTENDED Performance oil + Mobil1 Filter? The oil is guaranteed for 15K. Not sure what additive is put in to make it extended vs. their 0W20 Advanced Fuel Economy

The dealership I go to uses Mobil 1 full synthetic as default unless you ask for something else

I'll be following the maintenance minder 100%. Will also be going with what the dealer puts in it. Full confidence in letting Honda take car of their engine.

I don't know enough about it either, the only obvious concern to me is the word "guaranteed." Who is guaranteeing it and how? If your car starts to have performance issues or leaks or fuel economy issues at 80k, how can anyone pinpoint or prove that the extended oil change intervals were or were not to blame?

Further, what would you do with the Maintenance Minder? It will start giving warnings and blinking every time you start the car once you get to 0% and beyond. You could reset it back to 100% to get rid of that - but then it's going to throw off all the other service recommendations of the Minder along with it.

No I would not go the full 15k Miles. I would still use the Maintenance minder, but my thinking is the oil would be much better during its life (because they qualify it for 15k miles, while their other oils do not).

Mobil 1's AFE 0W20 is 30-40% Group IV PAO based, while the Extended Performance is at 60-70% PAO content... That is where the main difference lies between the two. Same goes for different quality levels from Amsoil for example.

On a turbo car, or if you are really anal about maintenance as I am, I would use synthetic. At my honda dealer the synthetic change is only $10 more.

I've followed the maintenance minder on my previous accord and will on this one as well. It usually hit 15% life around 8-10k.

Mobil 1 is a quality oil, regardless of the sub-series. However, I would never go 15,000 miles between oil changes, no matter what kind of oil I was using. My Civic will get new synthetic oil every 5,000 miles.

I've used Mobil 1 Extended (a different weight) on my Nissan 3.5 liter V6 since new but changed it a 7500 mile interval which in my case takes somewhat longer than 6 months to reach. After 100,000 miles on the car the oil usually looks very clean on the dipstick even after it's been in there for a while and I seldom have to add any oil between changes.

If you want full synthetic oil and don't like using the OEM synthetic blend, purchase the honda full synthetic oil - KENDALL makes all honda oil and it rated one of the very best and last time I checked had a higher API cert than mobil 1.

Would there be a problem using 5w20 instead of 0w20?
