Agreed, but I for one am more than happy at the power and mileage this inferior engine is capable of.

If my 2.4 Accord Sport had the smiles per gallon of this one, I would have never sold it.

coo1rim, I guess we're going to agree to disagree here. I still marvel at the amount of power Honda has squeezed out of this little 1.5 turbo. A car that can do 0-60 in the mid to high 6's and return incredible mileage as well.

The base 1.5T is actually very good in combo with the CVT and even more fun with a manual and the Si version is even better.

I've never said the base 2.0 isn't a good engine. It is. Btw, did you go ahead and test drive the turbo yet?

I have this feeling the 1.5T is not so great in two very specific, but also extremely common scenarios: traffic jams and stop signs.

Imagine you want to change lanes and you want to be quick from the moment you intend to move, because a small window of opportunity just surged. You have to be quick. Otherwise the dude behind on the lane you want to merge to will fill the space before you do. Or else, even more common: you want to cross a stop sign in a busy day and you have to assess your car's capacity of safely doing so. The 1.5 T will let you down a little bit in these two situations for two simple reasons:

1 - The drive-by-wire system on the 1.5T has a very annoying delay. Sometimes it feels like the gas pedal doesn't seem to answer your requests with a decent response time. It feels kinda lazy. That can be partially mitigated by a Sprint Booster or something of the kind, tho. I installed one and I really recommend it.

2 - By the time the turbo kicks in, you have already crossed the road / reached your desired lane merging. It feels a bit clumsy, because you were about to stop when the turbo kicked in. To add to that turbo "incontinence", you also had to count only on your 1.5 liters to do all the heavy lifting.

But beside these two cases, I can't think of any other scenarios where the 2.0 trumps the 1.5T.

How far can you go on raising engine's revs while breaking before your CVT transmission breaks?

How far can you go on raising engine's revs while breaking before your CVT transmission breaks?
Are you talking about like, power braking? Holding the brake hard down and then applying the gas, so the engine is struggling against the brakes?

As far as I know, that is a big no no for CVT transmissions. that is building up engine torque directly in to the drive belt, fighting against the brakes.

Yep. Absolutely never brake launch a CVT car. That's flat out dumb and CVT suicide.

I met a stock car racing pilot who also is a specialist in car tuning that owns the exact same model as I do (for day to day use). He said he would sometimes get into drags with some Audi on the streets (things are wild here in Brazil) and he would raise the revs to up to 2.5k before letting go of the brakes. He 100% discourages doing that, tho. Reason is the CVT.

I miss the manual transmission Civics. They are not available in Brazil for the Gen X.
