Yeah, that is not a good thing at all.
Maybe it's one of those "under-promise, over-deliver" scenarios.
Realistically, I think it's more likely because of the added weights of bigger wheels, and whatever accessories they pile on.

So... any thought on why the fuel economy rating is down across the board compared to 2016 - 2018 models?
The accessory pack plus sensing. The car is carrying more weight on larger wheels. And could be a newer calibration on the ECU as well. We shall see when it comes out.

Yes however, that 40+ mpg must live on. That is one of it's biggest selling points. The 1.5T I mean.
Good point. 36 MPG is barely any better than the Mazda 3 2.5 or VW Golf 1.8T (real life results would probably be a wash).

New Corolla/Mz3/Jetta would all eclipse/surpass the 1.5T Civic.

Hey look, the Turbo in any variation gets better MPG than any of the 2.0 na civics.....look at the turbo cvt and its 42 mpg......and the 2.0 6mt get the least mpgs of all.....But the 2.0 is a better engine lololol. Good lord.

Not the Jetta. Even with the new 1.4 engine it's rated at 30/39/34 (automatic). And that's only at 147hp.

Was it the the MPG comment that shows the more powerful engine also has better fuel efficiency that finally did you in? FYI, calling a fellow forum member a clown once got a certain member a 30 day break from the forum. You might want to edit that.......Dear mods, please dont delete this post.

I looked at your side of the borders Honda site and the best MPG model from the past still has the same as what is on the 2019... Or am I missing something.

That small amount of weight can't make that big of a difference except on the wheels as those are unsprung and the engine has to deal with their moments of inertia and all that fun physics stuff :)

Ooooh I see that Canadians have their own ratings.
Our NRCan standards are a little more strict to the point that those numbers are overly conservative. I regularly get 5.5 l/100km or 43.5 MPG with just my 2.0 EX CVT with sensing. Even with three adults in it and a trunk with gear. Hell, I was getting 38 MPG on the way back to Canuckistan from Mass/RI this spring and I had a 72 inch Thule box on the roof! Oh and both references are at speeds of at least 70 MPH with adaptive cruise on as often as I could. These cars are silly good on gas on the open road.

In terms of Freedom units, the Touring Sedan gets a 28/36/31 split.
Wow, major drop in mileage from my wife's 2016 Touring to the 2019 Touring. Sure bigger wheels and more insulation would be part of it but not all. In L/100KM.....2016 city 7.4/ 2019 8.8, hwy 2016 5.6/2019 6.2. 1.4 L/100KM (19% worse!) extra in town is massive drop and hwy is almost 11% worse.
I suspect the oil dilution problems Honda is having with the 1.5T prompted similar changes they proposed for China's 1.5T thus causing the biggest reason for mileage drop.

Watch for similar drops in the 2019 CR-V and Accord....

The Insight and/or Accord Hybrid are looking like even better choices now........

That is all messed up. Those numbers don't make sense at all. Should be interesting to see what is what when they are on the lots and when the US and Canadian sites are showing the final official specs. The change even on the 2.0 is big. Something else has to be at play or the DI issues are on ALL the engines or something. Even though I don't suffer anything close to bad economy in my 2.0 2017. I get at or better than the spec.
