Removing pinstripes from stock wheels.

I'm looking for some advice on the best method to remove the red pinstripes from the stock CTR wheels. They sit in a bit of a groove and look like they are 1/8 inch width.

Should I get then painted gloss black? Should I paint them myself? Should I use tape, and if so what width and should I use a tool like the taper works groove tool or just the standard stripe it all tool? Thanks for your time.

Was thinking about it, but I'm not sure it'll match, and it'll be tough w the groove. And I am okay with it being permanent

Hi guys,

I have done this both on my set of Stock Fk8 wheels as well as the Rays 57 Transcend Rev Limit edition.

You can get black pinstriping 3M vinyl wrap off ebay or amazon and run it over the crevice. Its very hard to see as its black on black and over the ridge of the lip. Its the same thickness as the one you would use to cover up the pin stripe on the skirting. Gotta make sure you don't get the reflective one, as I purchased the wrong one once. You can barely see it.

The key is to really clean the wheel before you apply, and then make sure you heat the vinyl and lay it on with no air bubble so that it shrinks or stretches where needed since its a big circle. To do this well need to use a heatgun. It can withstand a lot of washing and I never had to redo them.

I swapped out the centrecaps and put black Honda nuts on when I had the stock wheels (I don't run the normal red type R Honda badges).

The other way is to just powder coat the wheels.

Don't mess around with paint IMO. Pinstripe like jeremk mentioned will be your best bet. At least you know there will be a consistent finish and that you can peel it if you really wanted to. Or I would powder coat/plastidip the whole wheel. Just my two cents.

Personal preference mate.

Yep I think it looks good. It makes the car less busy. I removed all the pin striping on the skirting and lips as well.

However I know a lot of people love the pin striping, and the red certainly goes with the colours the car comes in.
