Ok here is the updated legal and illegal states for radar detector use and laser jammers. Ohio is awesome because we can use anything ;-)

With the latest detector tech so hi tech now, I see laser jammers as not effective. If GPS based apps already warn you ahead that there’s a laser trap, then not much use for laser jammers since you should know better to have slowed down already. However, that only works if other ppl report it or if there are more cars on the road than just you. I you’re the only car on the road then laser would nail you and is about the only situation that laser jammer will help.

Who cares... I’m not supposed to speed either... like that stops anyone lol

Everyone here has detectors and nothing ever happens. Just turn it off if you ever do get pulled over.

The units work amazing here minus laser since then you only know if you got ****ed or not by the cop. I’ve seen “jammers” but never trusted them to work for the cost justification.

You're counting on a GPS system to warn you about a laser trap? Bad move.....the officer can relocate, or be well hidden that nobody will see the trap, especially at night.

Not all laser jammers are created equal, and not all laser guns are created equal either. The top rated laser jammers work very well, and can defeat about all guns assuming the end user has installed the device correctly.

The lower end jammers can deal with older guns that don't have any ECCM or ECCM that's easy to defeat, but will fall short against the new VPR guns.

in lieu of having jammers, yes, i rely on gps and user reported locations. it doesn't mean i rely on it 100%. meaning at minimum i know in advance he was around there somewhere ahead and may still be there because someone reported him say within last 30 mins. is it foolproof and 100% reliable? no but it's absolutely better than nothing.

Point taken. Are you in a banned zone?

I've had 12 laser encounters in 3 cars, across 2 states. Never got a ticket.

no, ohio allows just about everything here since major detector companies (escort, valentine), radar gun mfgers, and traffic sensor mfgers are located in the state. they all have field days doing field testing across the state. we have traffic sensors almost every other mile as you come toward the loop of columbus, cleveland, and cinci.

in other words, it's all fair game here on both sides...lol

Sweet Jesus you remember the number of times you’ve been hit by laser?? lol that’s some rain man stuff right there :)

A mix of Waze and a solid detector seems to work for me... haven’t had a point on my license since 2006.

I do all the time... to MidO or straight through to states without the Buckeyes lol

I do two dragon trips a year so I’m used to the route south.

oh see...that's the problem, no wonder you have the blue and yellow plates. you need to hang the buckeyes flag when you come through, and they'll let you off with 20 over ;-)

*EDIT* I've taken @ctrmofo detailed guide and updated this thread for future reference. Thanks again CTRMofo! Use his friends and family discount code for 12.5% off your order directly with blendmount (cheaper than amazon): http://blendmount.refr.cc/ZBWKHQL

Radar Detector Installation Purchase List:

1) blendmount bmx-2000r if you're using the max360 detector. specific model based on your detector. our mirrors are the same stem of course.

2) blendmount direct hardwire 8 ft (has inline 2a fuse)

3) blendmount wire cover to tidy things

4) ATM-LP (low profile) add-a-circuit and ATM-LP fuse (minimum 2a or a dummy jumper fuse...since the blendmout hardwire has an inline 2a fuse which will be your main fuse for the detector circuit) both of which can be picked up at local autozone for cheap

5) option 1/4" black flex loom

Radar Detector Installation Guide:

1) follow installation guide from blendmount included in the box and make sure to NOT tighten the top collar bolt until the very last step.

2) run wire along top edge of headliner - very easy since there's a gap already. leave enough wire length at the mount so you can plug/unplug detector.

3) remove small cap on left a-pillar marked "airbag" and remove one silver screw.

4) pop out a-pillar panel which has 1 clip toward the bottom.

5) continue to run wire along a-pillar and BEHIND/UNDER the airbag - NOT on top of it.

6) at the section of dash with about 10" vertically, use optional black flex loom to wrap the wire - reason being to not have any wire rattle that may occur. jam the flex loom in that 10" gap and hide.

7) continue running wire down to fuse box under dash on driver's side.

8) find fuse location #1 labeld "ACC" for accesories showing 10a fuse.

9) unplug the 10a fuse and plug into the ATM-LP adapter in the slot without the red wire. plug a new ATM-LP fuse (at least 2a) into the other slot with the red wire.

10) crimp/connect the ATM-LP adapter's red wire with the red wire from the blendmount direct wire.

11) plug the ATM-LP adapter into fuse slot #1.

12) ground to the silver bolt on the fuse box located at the corner.

Tidy up your work with black zip ties and black electrical tape for a nice look. be sure to leave the inline 2a fuse exposed in case you need to replace it for a reason.

@ctrmofo thanks for the tips. I did that mount how you described but how did you secure the blend mount (gentex) wire cover running from the rearview mirror to the headliner? seems like it's made for auto dimming mirror which my car doesn't have- did you upgrade yours before the install?

The end with the curved arms - I used a pair of clippers and trimmed off the 2 hooks so the curves are flushed with the base of the mirror mount. Then I used 2 small strips of 3M strong double sided tape on inside of the curves and attached the curves to the mirror base. I extended the other end of the wire cover intonthe head liner and voila!

Valentine is amazing for me personally. It’s saved my ass often enough much less it keeps you alert. Add Waze on top of that... works great! They have ones that also sync right into waze and others reporting of officers or false alerts.

Extremely intelligent units.
Can you message me a pic on where you put the valentine and how you wired it up? i'm looking to invest in one but worried how i'm going to install it
