*EDIT* I've taken @ctrmofo detailed guide and updated this thread for future reference. Thanks again CTRMofo! Use his friends and family discount code for 12.5% off your order directly with blendmount (cheaper than amazon): http://blendmount.refr.cc/ZBWKHQL

Radar Detector Installation Purchase List:

1) blendmount bmx-2000r if you're using the max360 detector. specific model based on your detector. our mirrors are the same stem of course.

2) blendmount direct hardwire 8 ft (has inline 2a fuse)

3) blendmount wire cover to tidy things

4) ATM-LP (low profile) add-a-circuit and ATM-LP fuse (minimum 2a or a dummy jumper fuse...since the blendmout hardwire has an inline 2a fuse which will be your main fuse for the detector circuit) both of which can be picked up at local autozone for cheap

5) option 1/4" black flex loom

Radar Detector Installation Guide:

1) follow installation guide from blendmount included in the box and make sure to NOT tighten the top collar bolt until the very last step.

2) run wire along top edge of headliner - very easy since there's a gap already. leave enough wire length at the mount so you can plug/unplug detector.

3) remove small cap on left a-pillar marked "airbag" and remove one silver screw.

4) pop out a-pillar panel which has 1 clip toward the bottom.

5) continue to run wire along a-pillar and BEHIND/UNDER the airbag - NOT on top of it.

6) at the section of dash with about 10" vertically, use optional black flex loom to wrap the wire - reason being to not have any wire rattle that may occur. jam the flex loom in that 10" gap and hide.

7) continue running wire down to fuse box under dash on driver's side.

8) find fuse location #1 labeld "ACC" for accesories showing 10a fuse.

9) unplug the 10a fuse and plug into the ATM-LP adapter in the slot without the red wire. plug a new ATM-LP fuse (at least 2a) into the other slot with the red wire.

10) crimp/connect the ATM-LP adapter's red wire with the red wire from the blendmount direct wire.

11) plug the ATM-LP adapter into fuse slot #1.

12) ground to the silver bolt on the fuse box located at the corner.

Tidy up your work with black zip ties and black electrical tape for a nice look. be sure to leave the inline 2a fuse exposed in case you need to replace it for a reason.

Anyone hard wired their radar detectors yet on the Type R? I haven’t seen any threads regarding how they mounted or ran the wiring. I know we can run new lines to the fuse box but I was hoping we could tape into the lines at the lighting box overhead.
I think people don’t generally do that because the maplight console “red” wire is always on, not on/off with the ignition. Running the wires to the fusebox is pretty easy. Let me see if I can post my setup.

I’ve routed to the fuse box in previous vehicles. I hoped that we possibly had the wiring already waiting up near the over head light for the garage door opener upgrade as in other Honda vehicles. No biggie if not!

Just gotta see what fuse numbers are key on and if any are open to snag :)

What wiring does the garage opener use if we had it on the Type R. Wouldn't think that would be hot 24/7.

Are you talking about Homelink? It's supposed to take hot so you can open the garage any time, whether your car is running or not . . . . that's the manufacturer's suggestion, though many people don't want it to be operable when the car is off (to prevent someone breaking into the car to open the garage door while the car is off) so they power the unit via the ignition on/off.

Whether it's Homelink or Honda's autodim rear view mirror, they attach to an OEM harness which goes directly to the fusebox slot.

Ok that was what I was curious about for the Homelink. Think majority of people would feel it should not be operable for the reason you stated about someone breaking into the car.

I like to mount it higher and in front of the RVM, very stealthy. Then use a concealed display (like the one offered by Valentine 1 if you run their unit)

Add-a-circuit for power.

Custom on/off switch if you want where the blank switches are (left of the steering column)

How accurate are radar detectors these days? I figure with all the tech in cars now it would throw many false alarms. Especially around vehicles that have radar collision avoidance systems, automatic cruise control etc.

Valentine is amazing for me personally. It’s saved my ass often enough much less it keeps you alert. Add Waze on top of that... works great! They have ones that also sync right into waze and others reporting of officers or false alerts.

Extremely intelligent units.

Extremely accurate with traffic sensor filters and lane change filters etc. which typically uses K band spectrum. Plus the detectors are able to auto learn false alarms. If you drive by the same false alarm 3x, it will lock it out and can be overridden if needed.

You’re in Cinci where Escort and Valentine are hq’ed. I’m in Columbus so know very well Ohio is the test ground for detectors and for radar guns because gun manufacturers are hq’ed in Ohio too...so are the traffic sensor makers who uses Ohio freeways to field test. Laser makers are typically based in Canada.

I won’t drive without a detector...

Waze is fine IF people actually report it but doesn’t come with preloaded known speed traps, speed cameras, red light cameras, etc. This is where Escort Live is better because it has prebuilt database of known locations and constantly updated.

You’re in Michigan and you use a detector? I thought Michigan is one of the few states that ban detectors, no?
