Because it has back doors, mine is regular hatch. A hot hatch only has front doors and a hatch.

3 door hatches are dying out, less and less manufacturers making them as no one buys 3 door normal models so it saves costs

I agree it's more of a saloon but it's got a hatch, it spanks all other hot hatches so it's a hot hatch!

So... The Type R isn't a hot hatch?

Nor the current gen GTI?

The non-Type R Civic hatch is nice but definitely not a hot hatch from the factory. Get a tune, some better tires, a beefier rear sway bar and it's a lot closer to being a hot hatch. :)

Btw, hot hatches can definitely have 4 doors..

Since it is now the baseline of performance, I don't think it is. I think a hot hatch has to be a trim level above a normal hatch. That's a very subjective statement, sorry. However, it's a lot faster than hot hatches of yore! That feels like an inconsistent statement to make.

Eh, the Sport might be a "warm" hatch. But not the lower models.

So, no, I don't think the regular Hatchback is a 'hot hatch'. By the definition, their aim is generally sport focused with performance over 270... although I think there's allowances for weight to power (Abarth, etc...). Honestly though, I think it comes down to the vehicle's target consumer segment rather than raw numbers.

Possibly the SPORT version of the Honda Hatchback would fall in line (before the Type R), but I don't think the focus was really there to escalate it to hot hatch territory with the existing competition. It's likely a moving target, which I still don't think the Hatchback lands in.

The Sport is nowhere near hot hatch or warm hatch territory. Don't get me wrong. It looks sharp and handles pretty well, but, it only has 6 more hp than the base hatch's 174 hp.

On the other hand, this Civic hatch is scorching hot: :)

It’s a milquetoast hatch at best. It might have passed for a hot hatch 20 years ago, but no way today.

CVT needs to burn. No hot hatch or even warm hatch should ever have a CVT option.

An FK7, like a base Golf, is no hot hatch.

Lukewarm maybe. Drive a Type R, Veloster N, Golf R etc. and come back with your report. ;) 180hp makes the Sport pretty fun the drive... yes. It has good handling and an easy to use manual transmission. But, hot hatches are the fastest, best handling hatches in the world, of which the Type R is now king.

The Sport hatchback is better compared to something like a Forte 5 SX turbo. The Sport handles better than the Forte but that hatch has more power (201hp stock).
