Just bought a 2019 Civic SI and I can't believe its missing a manual e-brake. That's a huge oversight for a car that touts its catering to driving enthusiasts.

Has anyone tested how responsive the button is for attempting e-brake maneuvers?

its a parking brake, not a traditional e brake. It won't engage while moving.

Do you need to physically have your foot on the brake pedal (regardless of whether brake pressure is actually applied or not to the rotors) for the switch to activate though?

No, at least in a 2017 Civic w/manual transmission. Pulling up on the tab alone will engage the electric brake while moving.

SI doesn't engage while moving. I've pulled on the button a few times.

Sort of weird the electronic brake works differently in different civics. I tried mine moving about 10 mph, brakes engaged hard. Definitely not like the old manual brake style that could be moderated, so using the electric brake in a 10th gen while moving seems designed for a last resort emergency stopping vs. using it to put it in a slide.

I was going 20+MPH when attempted.

i've accidentally hit the switch before coming to a complete stop and it definitely engaged judging by the awful sound it made. also, you can use the electric parking break on hills. it will automatically disengage when you release the clutch.

That’s if you have your seat belt buckled lol. The parking brake can stop the car, you have to hold the switch up, don’t need foot on pedal.

I accidentally applied the e brake while parking but was still moving slightly and had my foot on the brake and it engaged the E-brake still and the car jerked so bad so I’ll make sure to never do that again. Are you trying to drift a fwd car?

Ever since the new s650 mustangs came out I’ve wished the si had a similar parking brake design. I just think the manual handbrake looks cool, but I like how well the electronic e brake works. Seems like the best of both worlds
