87, alternating between Shell & Exxon. Not using El Cheapo brand for the Civvy ;)

I'm using Shell regular unleaded. I'm staying away from Citgo in Chicago, a couple of the gas stations were fined for watering down their gas.

I've been using Top Tier 87, as that is what the manual recommends. It's been an adjustment, though, as 178 of the 181 closest gas stations are Speedways, which are not Top Tier (Hyperbole, yes, but not by much!).

Stick with 87, that's what they were designed to run on, I work at a dealer and we have cars come in from time to time with cold start issues/check engine lights due to higher octane gas, might be slightly different with the 1.5t, but i'd stick with 87 top tier either way, until the tunes come out!!

Higher octane gas will not cause your car to run rough... It's only a waste of money

Using higher octane gas can cause cold start issues and turn a check engine lights on, we have seen it happen here at our shop numerous times, with prolonged use

I have to drive 8 miles to the nearest top tier station from where I live. Top tier is the only gasoline I use in my cars since 2012.

Top tier Valero 91 pure gas. Have to drive 15 miles to the station but I like supporting the no ethanol guys.

I have been using Exxon 87 octane. In SC, the gas is down to $1.40 a gallon so it only cost me $15 to fill up the car today.

I've always used Sunoco or sometimes Marathon. Always 93 octane. I have the 1.5 Turbo Touring. If this is not recommended please let me know. Always felt that high octane burns off with less waste. I'm not a car expert. Thanks for opinions and recs.
( I used 93 Sunoco with my v6 Passat and got 206K miles of reliability.)

I am putting 87 octane from a top tier station in my touring. It runs good. But today I was going through manual and it says 87 octane or higher from a top tier station. Please provide any suggestions.

87 is fine for this vehicle. I use 91 for the Camaro as it is a tuned V8 with headers.

That's really only true for cars that don't have the ECU parameters to handle higher octane fuels. Most modern cars do, up to 93. But as others have said, often with very little benefit.
