I have a little too much time on my hands, so I figure I'd start a thread on corrosion prevention. None of our cars are very old yet, and the best time to prevent rust is sooner rather than later. This could be good information for those that like to work on their own cars, keep them for a long time, and drive in harsh conditions (aka road salt, near oceans, etc).
My Civic is a decent example:
Where is rust showing up on your car? Have you had any corrosion protection applied (Crown, Carwell, Ziebart, etc)? Do you think it's worth trying to prevent?
Thanks all
My Civic is a decent example:
- Has about 50k miles, going on 5 years old.
- Always located in Northeast US. Most winters spent in Buffalo NY without a garage.
- No rust proofing applied.
- Car washes by hand in the warmer seasons. Almost never in the winter. Auto washes are pointless when the roads are salty.
- Once or twice per year, I thoroughly clean the engine bay and door jambs.
