I was playing around and set my display to this.
Honda Civic 10th gen Tachometer Dots. What are they actually telling me? 5224BA92-11D5-43EA-A9B6-D46BC9DB5CE7

The dots don’t actually start lighting up til I really get the car going at midrange.
The dots are clearly, therefore, not an engine speed indicator (since they don’t actually tell you a speed).
What are they trying to tell me? When to shift?

its a tachometer light. as you approach redline each of the dots light up indicating where you are in the rev range. Sometimes if youre racing, its easier to keep those lights in your periphery rather than having to glance down to look at the tach itself. That combined with actually hearing the motor should let you know when to shift in situations where you cant look.
