I thought it's closer 500 HP on stock in internals if I'm not mistaken, and I'm pretty sure the FK8 can hit 500 on stock internals too (plus FK8 weighs less). Granted I wouldn't want to run either motor @500 HP on stock internals.
Taylor King had his type R up to 600 hp on stock internals with a G30-770

Can’t wait to see road tests of the GRC. I think it looks great and on paper it sounds like a great package. I like Hondas and Toyotas so to see that they even have the GRC is great. When they announced no Yaris GR over here it was disappointing. After seeing the GRC I’m not disappointed. It’s a good time to be a hot hatch fan.

I'm looking at Fastlaps for the ÂĽ mile times for the GR86, GR Yaris, Focus RS, and the FK8 (for fun, it's not really a fair comparison with the FK8). I get the following numbers:
  • GR86: 14.0 s @ 101 MPH
  • GR Yaris: 13.0 s @ 105 MPH
  • Focus RS: 13.1 s (no trap speed)
  • Civic Type R: 13.4 s @ 108 MPH
Since the GR Corolla is using a similar drivetrain, I'd guesstimate its ÂĽ mile to be about 13.6 if we assume the time would scale linearly with the power to weight ratio.

So it does look like the GR Yaris likely has a power to weight ratio closer to the Focus RS if we assume that the quarter mile time is proportional to power to weight ratio. Based on the times, the GR Yaris probably puts like 230-ish to the wheels. Applying this logic over to the GR Corolla I see about 255 to the wheels (assuming same powertrain losses from advertised).
The Yaris GR in the FastLaps reference is the 268hp model while the one claimed to be making 278bhp was the 257hp model, so I guess that model would be making around 290bhp according to their corrected figures. I estimate 220whp for the 257hp model and 230whp for the 268hp model. Doubt we'll see over 255whp on the Corolla GR.

While everyone is drooling over the thickness of the cylinder walls, I'm eyeing the valve train. Encountering valve float before you can even max out the factory turbo is an expensive fix. Here's one of the videos in question: .

Not sure how much it was making at that point, but I do know it was on the factory turbo and judging by the 110mph trap speed, not making much more than 40-50whp over stock. Perhaps they'll improve the valve train for the Corolla though.

I estimated the wheel power output for the Corolla based on a ratio. This assumes that the parasitic power train loss between the two vehicles is the same (or very similar). We know the GR Yaris makes like 230-ish to the wheels with a rating of 268 and we know the GR Corolla has a rating of 300, assuming all things the same, what's the wheel output of the Corolla?

230 / 268 = x / 300
69000 = 268x
x = 257

This is how I got the rough 255 number for the new Corolla in stock form.

My god the amount of insecure little boys here is crazy. Other than being hot hatches both cars are not in the same league. One is made to slay race tracks the other to have fun everywhere, even in winter. To me they are not a comparison, they both have their different reason to be.

I’m excited to see them, wish the Yaris made it across the pond, I’d own one lol.

If I topped 40k paying for a Carolla I'd kick my own ass.
