Can the lock washer from the 2020 boot be swapped to fit the 17-19 boot? I prefer the leather boot and wheel being a daily.I believe it comes as one full assembly. It's like 70-ish bucks. I really only wanted the locking collar
Edit: my 2020 shift boot was ETA'd for tomorrow though. I haven't checked up on it though, so who knows if that'll actually happen. My 2020 shift knob is supposed to ship back to me tomorrow as well. Can't wait.
The collar most likely can be swapped, but the only way to get it is to buy the boot which means you're buying that whole assembly. Keep in mind that it may also require the 2020 locking nut to function properly as well.
It’s already been done. The difference isn’t in size or capacity they look identical. What Honda did was jam in about 3x the density of cooling fins.

Personally I would like someone who has both Type R shifters to post this exact comparison. If I'm not mistaken the 2017-19 Type R shifter is shorter than the Si shifter anyways.Here is a side by side comparing a si shifter to the 2020 shifter. You can see the rod length is shorter. And the lower portion is different as well. This is why the throws are shorter overall. Less length in the rod means a shorter knob height, which means less leverage, so it feels a bit stiffer but still has the oem smooth and slick feeling to it’s operation. The aftermarket short shifters are short but feel somewhat resistant when rowing through gears. The 2020 is a nice compromise. Short throws and lower knob height yet still smooth in operation.

I'll wait for @.grimace 's observation. It's still cheaper than aftermarket offers and if it brings down coolant temp by up to 18F (claimed by Honda), I think it's worth it.
Awesome! Thanks for the very useful information. If you want to drop the height of the shifter another ½ inch, you could use the 2020 locking but and retaining ring. As for the increased stiffness, a new shifter (even 2017-19) will do that. It was one of the first things I noticed back a few months ago when I had to get mine replaced.Wish granted.
Finally received and installed 2020 CTR shifter after letting the car sit for three weeks with the center console torn apart. Took it out for a 30-min test drive and it was fantastic.
2020 shifter is 3/4" shorter (upper rod) than '17-'19 shifter and the centering spring feels firmer. Lower rod is unchanged. Throw is obviously shorter due to shorter upper rod. Shifting action feels a little firmer, more precise and no notchiness or grind in any gear. I do have Acuity shifter cable bushings (recommended!) installed and everything else is factory. Shifting action isn't as firm and the throw isn't as short as Acuity's full shifter assembly. The shift knob does sit lower (around 0.4") than Acuity's lowest setting. Overall, the 2020 CTR shifter feels somewhere in the between the old factory shifter and the Acuity full shifter (with all setting in the middle) but without its firm shifting action.
For around $50 shipped + Acuity cable bushings. Recommended!

All buttoned up! Sits lower and feels great on 2019 shift knob and nut (perfect fitment). 2020 shift knob and nut are still in transit but I couldn't wait, so I'll have another update!
Local guy in our ctr group already got it and has seen lower ECT temps in town, on freeway and spirited drives. It works
