I called First Texas Honda and it is true. they are offering Stage 1 and Stage 2 reflashes for the 2017-2018 CTR. Supposed to add roughly 40whp and 52wtq by increasing boost pressure. And this does in fact retain factory Honda warranty. Problem is that they are the ONLY Honda dealership in the US currently participating in this program/agreement they have between Honda and Hondata.
My Dealership said the exact same thing up in Canada. I was talking with the aftermarket accessories manager. I will be saving up my pennies to do the reflash through them.

I'm not exactly sure what the debate is, but we do sell to Honda dealers. Some Honda dealers promote our reflash for the 1.5 turbo engine on new vehicles. Much depends on how the individual Honda dealer views aftermarket accessories (including reflashes) but some are fully behind our products. If you have any specific question we can clear up I'd be happy to help.
Are the reflashes that they are offering the same as the stock tunes y'all released?

The reflashes the dealers install are the Hondata CARB reflashes.

Let's give you an example of another Honda Dealership - Spreen Honda from Loma Linda California. Spreen Honda installed an intake, intercooler, CRV turbo and Hondata CARB reflash onto a new Civic for a customer. An increasing number of Honda dealers are promoting performance upgrades. This is not surprising given the switch to turbo power for many Honda models.

Agreed. Don't get what all the noise is about, this has been done across the industry for many years. In my VW days there was one particular dealership in town who had a good partnership with UniTronic. They flashed the cars for customers and even offered to do it before the car was delivered. Of course any warranty work was recommended to go through them so they could work with corporate on your behalf. Can't expect the other guys across town to work with you the same way if they don't even know what the term 'Stage 1' means.

I think what you said above should be noted, "Of course any warranty work was recommended to go through them so they could work with corporate on your behalf." The normal expectation is that your warranty is from Honda the mothership, and it's honored across any authorized Honda dealer. Since this upgrade is purchased and then backed by specific dealers who have an agreement with Hondata, you are going to want to go back to the same dealer to make sure you have no issues with the warranty. If you move and later go to a dealer who doesn't know anything about Hondata, the first time they find the ECU you're going to have some explaining to do, and they will probably tell you to go back to the same dealer. It's a legitimate thing to consider.

On the other hand, I'm really happy to hear that the Hondata upgrade has CARB certification.

Ok. So I actually have an update on this.

So after I spoke with them I called and talked to Hondata. They told me that they offer Dealer Tunes using the FlashPro.

But then he continues and tells me that they are now offering for us to send in our stock ecu and will then do a clone of the stock ecu and will jail break a second ecu. So you can keep and retain your factory warranty by simply re-installing the original ecu if you have to go to the dealer for any reason.

This new setup to clone your stock ecu, get a jail broken ecu clone and the Flashpro to tune the type r will cost $1600.00 which is going live on March 30th.

I thought that this was actually a decent option because the reflash at First Texas Honda will cost $800.00 for stage 2 which is also going live March 30th.

So in short I will personally be saving up for $1600 to do it Hondata's way.

Just thought I would share the info I found out today!
You can't just drop in another ECU into your vehicle. The immobilizer is keyed to the ECU that comes with your vehicle and you'd have to reprogram it or use another set of key fobs entirely. That's another added expense on top of purchasing that 2nd ECU.

I think there is confusion between the 1.5 Civic and Type R.
Given we don't have a stage 1 or 2 reflash for the FK8 and it is not available for the dealer FlashPro and it is not yet available CARB approved then I suspect that the statements attributed to Texas Honda referred to the 1.5 Civic, not the Type R.
We can clone the Type R ECU and you can swap the ECUs back and forward in your vehicle without touching the immobilizer.

...not to rain on anyone's parade; but it is bizarre to me that a seemingly reputable company is supporting, if not encouraging, criminal warranty fraud. If your engine is damaged while using a tuned ECU and you swap a stock ECU in and make a warranty claim, you have committed criminal fraud. You could go to prison. Why on earth is it worth risking your life to get out of paying for some parts on your car?

We are not encouraging fraud. If you look at our past statements then we recommend that people be open with their dealers about their modifications. I believe that people want cloned ECUs because they are not comfortable having their stock ECU opened, or so that they can switch between calibrations more easily.

Hello, I've emailed you guys and sent you a PM, how long is your waiting list to jailbreak the ecu also when are you guys getting more ECUs?

Thanks

Thanks for clarifying. I can appreciate people wanting a backup ECU. The way some people on the forum discuss the use of the backup is concerning. I'm glad your official position does not encourage that behavior.

I'm pretty sure Honda the manufacturer is not honoring the warranty. I believe it is another warranty program layered on top by the selling dealer that gives you coverage. Anyone want to confirm?
