TL;DR: If the car is running, how far can the key be taken from the car before the car shuts off?
Hey all,
I introduced myself and asked a few questions already in the DFW regional thread but figured I'd branch out a bit. I'm currently selling my car (Lexus GX470) and beginning the hunt for a 2018 Civic Si. I've been doing a lot of browsing and reading on the forums here for the past few days. I have an extensive background of auto forums so I know the answer to most questions is "use the search bar, idiot!" But i still have a question I haven't been able to find an answer to. I've noticed that no Si is offered with remote start. I realize this is because of the manual transmission. Living in Texas and having to park the car outside while at work, temps in the car are likely to get up to 140 degrees during the day and make getting in the car miserable at the end of the day. My question is this... how far can you be away from the car once it's running? Ideally I'd like to be able to get off work, stop in the parking lot on my way to the locker room, start the car, and then continue to the locker room to change and get ready to go home. Is this possible? Will I be able to start the car and then take the key with me about 75 yards away and have the car running and cooling down the whole time? Or will it time out at some point of not sensing the key and shut off? Honestly, I could leave the key in the car and not worry about it as I work at a pretty secure place. But I'd still like to be able to take the key with me if possible just as a safety precaution.
Thanks in advance for the help.
