Winter tire size on stock 18"?

I see threads about down sizing for winter setup, but I am looking to put new winters on my stock 18" Si wheels. Anyone have thoughts on 225-45-18, slight tall and narrow then stock 235-40-18. But that is better for snow?
Price is also $60 per tire less for that size!
