'Ring time predictions-

Just hours from the big reveal, I started wondering - will the reveal come with a lap time? If so, what would it be? It's time for a pointless poll!

I'm thinking - since the #TypeR was developed at the same time as the standard car, this is a bit more serious of a car than the last generation. It has a slightly wider track, longer wheelbase, better aero, and may be lighter. As such, I predict/hope a leap over the previous version down to 7:44.

They won't pull a Lamborghini and put up a suspicious 5s increase. Given this is a stated goal however, it is possible given the (assumed) starting drivetrain/engine with just tweaks and discussed lighter weight. Remember the Golf had been stripped down and even pulled the air conditioner and headliner out of the car to lower weight and hit their 7:49.. so a bump over 310Hp, weight under 3k and bad skills, it could happen.

It took 10 months for Honda to publish their 'Ring time to the public. Testing was done during the development stage of the car. I have a feeling Honda already attempted to set a new time in the new CTR back in 2016. I'm guessing during the time when those spyshots were taken.

If Honda doesn't public a new record at the Geneva Auto Show tomorrow, I'm going to assume they didn't break the time set by the GTI.

Assuming Honda set a new FWD record, I think 4 seconds quicker seems reasonable given the new updates (aero, suspension, lighter and stiffer chassis, etc). So around 7:46.

Unfortunately car makers don't release tire info, weight reduction (if any) when publishing 'Ring times as those play a critical role. If Honda really wanted to break the record, they could theoretically run slicks, gut the interior, install a cage, etc.

With that said, 'Ring times are for marketing purposes so take it with a grain of salt.

Wow, only 0.2s off. Confirmed lap time is 7:43.8s. Maybe Honda can hook you up with some swag lol.
