Most people that I've talked to that have had both a 10th gen SI and R have said that even reflashed, it's a completely different car. One of my coworkers runs a car blog - he recently had the opportunity to compare the two, and he echoed this sentiment. He indicated that even the transmissions on the two were wildly different.

That said, I love modding, and wonder if it would be worth it to mod an R. It's already super linear in its power band, and I wouldn't want to ruin that with a peaky tune. I love my current TSP Stage 1 tune, but you can definitely feel the torque spike relative to the stock tune. There's also lots of reports of people with tuned R's breaking the tires loose in 3rd and 4th gear at 40+ mph when stepping down at 80% of WOT. not sure if it's worth it to add power when I can't really use it.
Had an ‘18 SI with Hondata etc and now own the Type R. There is no comparison; I wish people would stop saying “is the type R worth $10k more?” Because yes it is worth way more than $10k more. You could throw $10k at the si and it will never perform like the type r

I also have a decently moded R and yes it makes the car that much more fun and yes there are traction issues with so much power but it’s a lot of fun :) and boost by gear!

I wish people would stop saying that too. It's a problem for all car brands. There's a lot more engineering going on than just swapping out some parts for something aftermarket. The highest performance trim of a car is usually so much better than its lower-tier brother. It's something you have to physically experience. Reading the spec sheets and lap times don't suffice.

I'm currently in the process of shopping for an R to upgrade to. My only decision now is PMM, or CBP?

Personally I would do PMM. I have the CW and love it, but between the two you mentioned, the black is reeeeeeealllyyy hard to keep clean if you do any daily kind of driving. It looks amazing when clean but that doesn’t last long before you gotta wash it again (even with ceramic coat). I also owned a black 8th gen back in the day...never again lol.

I think PMM also looks pretty good with all colors of aftermarket wheels and the color on its own is really nice and low maintenance.

I love CW but man going to the auto wash 3 times a week gets annoying

The black is the best but you pay to play. It'll be hell to keep it clean all the time but worth every second.

I enjoy my Si immensely but in the back of my head their is a voice whispering "Type R, Type R"......every time I get in and drive I am amazed just how good this car is which keeps me thinking just how good the Type R must be. If I get out of this car early it's because of the damn Type R!

Nice! Are you happy with the Hatchback? Faster than your old Si?
I am very happy with my Hatchback, but it is definitely not faster than my 15 si coupe. I got the hatch for the fuel economy and the extra space which the Si did not provide, although the fuel economy isn't that crazy of a difference, it was mostly the extra space that I wanted, my coupe days were coming to an end but I did not want to go the SUV route. All in all, very happy so far.

The tough thing for me is the existence of the type R, I only got my Si a month ago, but maybe in a year I’ll be looking at upgrading, especially since I just got a large raise...

I went over to the Honda dealership today and they had a white Type R on the floor, of course the car is fantastic from a mechanical and performance standpoint, but the look of the car, in my opinion, it’s just downright fugly.

ive always felt it was fugly. it just looks like a big mess of shit thrown together on the hatchback body.

the main issue is that over the top gaudy lookin subaru spoiler. its like the exact same as the sti spoiler. honda spoilers have always been subtle ie itr, em1, etc. but that spoiler looks like fuggin doo doo.

Aside from that ugly curvy spoiler, those gigantic black pieces of plastic on the rear bumper, those cheap looking carbon fiber ground spoilers, splitter, whatever you call them, the front side vents look terrible, and those goofy looking spikes on the rear hatch, wtf are those? The car is an eyesore imho.

yeah i forgot about those side vent things... hideous. they look like they belong on the rx8 or something. those spikey things are also stupid looking.

honda needs to make her into a coupe. i know itll never happen but i mean the itr was basically a couoe..
