Simple: The First Day of Christmas is the Christmas Day: December 25. The Christmas Tree should be put up and decorated on Christmas Eve, December 24. It's acceptable if it's decorated a couple of days earlier.

As described in the Nutcracker by E. T. A. Hoffmann, the children see the Christmas tree for the first time on Chrismas Eve.
This is the way. Anything else is abomination dictated by consumptionism.
