Anyone prefer to use a combination of engine breaking and foot breaking to come to a stop?

Ive noticed that if you need to come to a stop sooner than you expect, u can quickly switch to L and use a bit a foot breaking so you can come to a stop much more smoothly than if you just foot break.

I do this all the time since I ride a bike. Engine breaking is almost used every single time. Def a nice little fun benefit.

Yes, with a manual transmission I do it all of the time. It's very hilly where I live so engine braking is almost mandatory unless I want to replace brake pads every 10,000 miles. Let the car coast down a long 7 or 8-degree grade in 4th gear or even in 3rd on a longer 10-15-degree grade. Been doing it all of my life and never got less than 250,000 miles out of a car or transmission.

Yes. Funny thing is, there are a few roads near me where 'No Engine Braking' is posted.
Really?
Stupidest sign ever. Might as well add 'no downshifting, no rev matching, no...' you get the idea.
Morons.
Mind you, this is on a long steep downhill where using engine braking combined with your brakes not only saves your brakes - but is much, much safer.
Doubt anyone has ever received a ticket for this. But still.

I thought those signs were meant for truckers and jake brakes. That thing can be really loud.
Good point, hadn't considered that. But a truck going down a long steep hill has even more risk of brake failure - so engine braking is sort of a must. So still not a reasonable request from that standpoint.

I only use engine braking when I don't have to come to a complete stop. Using brakes work better for that.
