After months of my car sitting, and getting a scary medical diagnosis (which is still TBD). I decided to finally jump into my motor rebuild. I don't want to go to hardcore I don't have that much money. But at the minimum I will be doing:

Brain Crower Titanium springs
ARP headstuds (MAP's spacer version)
Hasport full motor mount with the 70A urethane

And of course brand new seals and gaskets and a dick load of Hondabond. Pretty much just head work, im hoping I can leave the bottom end. I've never done any motor work before but I am confident I can figure it out and with everyone on this forum to help me, ill get it done. That being said im going super slow and taking my time. I have almost all of the electrical out of the way and am ready to take the valve cover off, dick with the fueling setup however tf that works, than to the other side for all of the timing and than take the head off. I won't get to it today but tomorrow I plan on all/most of the day with it.

Love to see stuff like this, I'm just curious on your rationale for building the head with no bottom end support? As far as I know head failures are rare, especially at power levels where the stock bottom end is safe to use.

I think the issue is in the head somewhere and not in the bottom end. I just want the car to run good again. Later on i can always go all out, but i want to drive it with no issues on the 27won w2 BB on stock fuel. On this setup I shouldnt fuck up a rod.

Since im taking the head off i cant utilize the side motor mount so i made this really fast. Nothing pretty but it will work fine. I even shimmed it ?

Well ill start with anyone wondering about that hard coolant line there ^^ you just have to rotate it while pulling it out of the little manifold that connects to the head. Actually comes out kinda easy. Ill tell you what didn't come out easy, the crank pulley. Holy fuckkk dude I mean seriously. But everything came apart fairly simple and easy besides that.

The block appeared to be in good shape. No scoring or marks in the cylinder walls. so I think im just gonna run with it.

Head looks nice and clean. I'd replace your injectors while you're in there doing a rebuild.

It looks like you just have a pick stuck in the timing chain tensioner - if that's what I'm seeing, I hope it's secured to not come loose!

Have seen at least one other person have whatever pin/pick they were using to keep it collapsed fall out, and they had to buy a new tensioner altogether.

How are your valves looking from carbon build up? How many miles?

I had no issues with fueling. Is this a highly recommended thing?

Yea. it fell out. I can't put it back together?

Tbh I can't remember how many miles were on it, I wanna say almost 23k. I'm not sure, I was going to replace all of the valves and seals as well.

Service manual says if it's allowed to fully extend, it needs to be replaced.

A timing chain tensioner is not the kind of thing I'd want to take a risk on.

I think maybe I misremember about what the service manual says, but I distinctly remember someone having it come apart on them and they had to buy a new one. Just be careful, would suck to have the tensioner cause a problem.

Edit: There is a warning in the manual tho

Yesterday i took the head apart. The cam caps are no fucking joke to get off. There has to be a tool or something to get them off. But i got them out and everything else.

I contacted 4piston and MAPerformance to see if they will do the work on my head for me. Cylinder 4 was the one that had the thick black trail coming from it. So i am assuming that the valve seal is shot. Maybe the valve guide as well. I am not sure so im going to have everything measured and replaced as needed.

Got the head back from the shop. Harrison at ATL Powerhouse Performance said that all of the valve guides were good, none of the valves were bent just 3 valve seals in cylinder 1,3,4 all on the left side (exhaust only) were shot. So I replaced them all with Viton valve seals and had the valves lapsed and the head completely cleaned. He said it could have been because of carbon build up or just shitty seals from the factory when they put them in. Idk but Also got the head resurfaced.

I spent a good hour trying to get 1 valve spring in but the tool i had to compress the springs just fought me on getting the keepers in there. So i threw that P.O.S away and bought a new one that hopefully will work for me. Id hate to have to take the head back to Harrison to have him put the springs in ?

BUT!!! The main focus here is all of my new parts i got and the long awaitedW2 Ball Bearing edition ?

That is the PTP turbo blanket for the oem turbo. It looks like it will fit, fingers crossed.
The motor mounts are the 70 urethane
