Would you get a Civic if your daily commute was 2 miles?

I've been saving up for an Si for a while. But a new job may mean I have to take a train to work. The train station is less than 2 miles from my house. The engine will barely warm up by the time I'm there.

Would you buy a Civic with the oil/gas dilution issue if your daily drive was that short?

Depends on where you live. Somewhere that is warm year round? I'd walk. Anywhere else, absolutely not. I'd buy the car.

I live in NJ.

Walking is not an option, no sidewalk, lots of traffic.

I'd buy the 2.0 without the turbo. Still a wonderful car, that you can even tune. The 1.5, with the turbo, has documented problems about being driven without the majority of the miles being after it has warmed up.

I would get the 2.0, but if you prefer the 1.5t, then I would get an automatic EX. They got remote start. You could crank it 10-15 minutes before you head out the door. That way the engine is warmed up and so is the cabin:)

What are you currently driving? imho, it might be best to have a reliable older car that you don't worry about leaving at the train station all day. Door dings, Hot sun, Snow , bird droppings etc. Now, if you have a spot for a second fun car, then yeah, I'd consider an Si for that ;)

I drive a 2014 crv now. Most boring vehicle on earth. 2 cars is not in the budget, lol.

Would an engine block heater mitigate the oil/gas dilution issue in the civic?

unless you live on the twistiest most fun 2 mile drive to the train station, keep it simple. Keep the boring car. There is a quiet comfort with boring. It doesn't tax you. You don't stress about it. Its just there. Sure its mundane. On the other hand, if you really want the Si, then just do it. It could be the best 2 mile commute of your life :)

I have a hatch in upstate NY with cold winters, with <1 mile commute one way. I also can't walk due to highway crossing, traffic, etc. I do remote start to get it a little warmed up, but you won't have that option in the Si. I've had my car since Dec. 2016, and had the oil dilution 'fix.' So far so good.

Get yourself a good coat, umbrella, and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. It's two miles.

To be clear, on weekends I'll be driving the civic a lot.

Am I worrying about this to much? The Si is my attainable dream car.

No, you're not worrying about this too much. The Si is a worthy attainable dream car. My advice would be to allow a few extra minutes to get to work, and take the long way to get there. That way you would be sure to heat up the engine oil, and burn off the wayward fuel.

That would also allow you some more time to "enjoy" you're car.
