Update! Son number two did pretty good for his first day and lessons. Taking off from a stop is something we’ll need to practice more. I did have him practice it for 20 mins or so, but he was starting to get frustrated. Lesson 2, shifts out of first went better. Followed up by a long drive in the country, where he did amazing. Tomorrow will go better, I encouraged him that he already has done it. Now just practice, practice, practice!

FIrst, disown said step-brother, replace him with a dog and give him the same name. Second, sounds like a good reason to upgrade the clutch to something more hardy and less prone to "step-brother" type incidents. I feel your pain... I only let my wife drive my Si and thats because she is a better driver in a sports car (hate to admit it, she grew up on sports cars) but she no longer wants to drive sports cars ... only if she has to get to point A to point B. I think the damage inflicted on your Si is minimal at worst.

I hope to teach my wife and my kids in my car. My wife in my Si for sure and my kids, well we'll have to see what's available at that time (only 9 months old don't even know if they'll want to learn). One thing that I am gonna do for sure is run Map 1 when I am teaching my wife. No way in hell am I letting anyone drive around in Map 3 that's not me. Or like someone said flash back to stock if you are letting anyone drive your car.

Believe me he is never touching the car again  And yes the clutch upgrade is on its way even if the stock one is still going great

Yes, that was a mistake on my part letting him drive the car on MAP 3 in sport mode. Never again is someone going to drive my car on a tune other than me.

This thread made me feel quite a bit better about myself. I learned how to drive a manual car for the first time ever in my life this year because I wanted a Type R. Before learning I watched a shit load of YouTube videos on gearing, gear ratios, how it all works. And of course I learned the actual driving part on an older car (1999 ford escort zx2). I'll definitely be more cautious about letting people drive my Type R just because they "know how to drive stick." :)

This is where BBG comes in extremely handy. I’ve got 2 boys, one driving for a few years under my tutelage and one that is going to start to learn tomorrow. If they get into too high a gear and heavy throttle, the BBG settings I have don’t stress the clutch at all.
Okay, I was hoping I wouldn't have to be the one to ask this. But, oh well.. What is BBG? Google search says "Beautiful Baby Girl". Doesn't sound right.

Boost By Gear - tuning option to limit boost in each gear. Useful for people with issues controlling the throttle position due to a number of issues (ignorance, anxiety, impatience, etc)

Thanks! So would the plan be to limit boost in 5th and 6th gears to something like 17-19psi while maintaining the higher boosts, assuming you are using Map 2 or 3 on TSP Stage 1, on the lower gears?

If you are willing to use BBG - I would limit the boost in 5 and 6 to under 10 and 5psi respectively - hell maybe even lower. There is no good result from using boost in those gears. Downshift to a lower gear and you'll put less stress on the clutch and engine internals. You will also get faster acceleration.
