I used 91 from shell and it feel way smoother, and i get +2 mpg. Plus it is literally recommended on the gaspcap cover and manual
Yes, for hatchbacks but not sedans. So yes your correct. :)

The regular 1.5L turbo is only 174HP and the 2018 Owners Guide states:

Models with SPORT mode
Use of unleaded gasoline of 91 octane or higher is recommended.
Models without SPORT mode
Use of unleaded gasoline of 87 octane or higher is recommended

There is no gas cap on my 2018 since it's a capless system, and nothing that I can see around the filler mentions octane.
Must be a 2019 thing, it just a shroud over the capless system. Try out 91 octane for the difference in term of mpg and driving for yourself. I prefer 91 and it 10$ extra every fuel fuel up for me.

When I was un-tuned, I used 89 octane after starting on 87 and it did seem smoother. For 20 cents more a gallon it was worth it. But at 50 cents more for 91, I didn't think it was worth it on the stock engine. On the other hand, I now happily pay a $hitload more for 93 octane because it really wakes up my tune.

I’m starting to believe the +6hp from the Sport Hatch is 90% from 91octane gas alone. But I can no longer justify putting 91 in my EX-T sedan as it now crosses $3.50/gal (SoCal) even though it felt smoother and punchier.

It also 3.50 here in Florida. I agree that the 91 octane is needed for the 180 horse power for the sport hatch and that is how they got that number (also why they recommend it). You can start using gasbuddy and she'll fuel rewards to start saving money. I had a deal for gasbuddy which was .20 cent/gallon so that easily 2$ saved plus fuel rewards .05/gallons. I am getting the gasbudy card to hopefully use both at the same time. You should also start using fuely to track each fill up. I averaged around 43.5 mpg with 90% 65mph driving on back road (not highway) with 200 miles.

Thanks for the suggestion. I use Costco card that gives 4% discount on top of slightly lower gas prices. I’ve yet to crack 40mpg in LA traffic. Getting around 36mpg in mixed driving.

That still amazing for 36. How are you getting to that? Any tips. I think the 43.5 mpg will dip into the 38 range soon but my AVG since I got the car is around 33.

I think your 2.0 LX has different fuel economy rating from 1.5T trims. I just drive normally with ECON on the freeway and normal mode on local streets.

There is no 91 octane anywhere near me, it's 87, 89, or 93.

By me, per GasBuddy, Costco 87 octane is $2.86 and 93 octane is $3.37.
Mobil 87 is $2.89 and 93 is $3.59.
Shell 87 is $2.85 and 93 is $3.77.

The minimum increase between 87 and 93 is 52 cents per gallon.

That's pretty much all it is. Along with the slightly freer flowing exhaust. Hondata actually mentioned this a long time ago. Someone here said the Sport has a different ECU tune, but as far as I know, it's identical to the non-Sport tune.

87 octane in a stock engine. Anything else can cause issues and is a waste of $$.

I have filled with Costco premium (equivalent to 93) since I got my car and have tuned using ktuner. My car is happy and I am currently awaiting winter blend gas to go away given that I am averaging about 31 MPG and I don't have a lead foot.

Dos anyone else in higher elevations use 86? Out here 86 is REG so you can usually find 86 or 91 sometimes 88. I almost always use top tier either Costco or Shell sometimes other non top tier. Mixed driving average 34 now that I am driving mostly highway 70-80mph I am averaging 40mpg.

Over here in England the car has 195 bhp and runs at a minimum 95 ron, i use costco's 99 ron.
