I was just about to jack up my civic for the first time and turns out my 3-ton (regular steel) low profile jack from Harbor Freight won't clear bottom of the car. The back part where the handle meets the jack is too tall. I'm trying to reach the center front jack point which is just past the metal splash plate.

Any experience with jacks that will work with this car?

i use a harbor freight low profile 1.5T jack

just get couple of 2x4 and drive up on that to raise the car a little

So does your jack clear the bottom or do you have to drive up on the 2x4s?

yup
the back end scapes the bottom of the bumper a little at the front but you can just push it in and it will clear it. i usually just drive up some scrap wood i have laying around to get an extra in of clearance
Awesome, thanks for the responses, guess I'll pick one up on sale

i would keep your 3ton and get some 2x4 if you dont have any. these 1.5t dont go up that high. i maxed them out a a alot and end up having to add wood to make it go higher

Get some jack stands and do one side at a time? Probably cheaper than getting a whole new jack.

Just put it under the A-arms on the front, or each side of the rear axle.
How do you jack it on the a arms in front and then get a jack stand under it? I just jacked the rear, put a stand under the a arm and then jacked the front one side at at time. That recessed point in front under the pan is a bitch to get to. The 2x4 is your best option on both tires, then there's plenty of room to get under there.
