I got a new Civic LX sedan last week. When I got home, in the console,
I found a sealed plastic bag containing 4 identical black soft rubber stoppers.
I called Honda Civic 10th gen What are these rubber plugs? IMG_3898.JPG the dealership and asked what they were and no one knew. I've uploaded
a picture. Does anyone have a guess what they are? Do they actually belong
to the car?

Looks like the plugs they use post rust prevention treatment.

Although does anyone do that anymore???

I didn't ask for or pay for any rust prevention. I agree they look like plugs for some
hole(s), but where? Maybe someone test driving the car (before I bought it) just
dropped the in the console to torment the person who buys the car, I dunno....

check underneath the side rails of your car. (the side skirt area) Btwn the front and rear wheels. I believe they are grommets for the holes.

My car came with 4 of these in the glove box. They should be installed under the frame rails on 4 corners, near jack points. I think the dealers should put them on before delivery but they rarely do it.

Yup, this is correct. My car also came with these uninstalled plugs, I believe they’re for the hold down holes for the chains or straps that are connected when they ship the car.

You guys sure helped me on this one, thanks! I have uploaded a photo showing one of the
holes in the bottom of the car in case someone in the future is searching for an answer to
this question. The photo is of the right side, front of the car, taken directly
up. The front of the car is to the bottom of the photo; the rear of the car is top.
The car is on a jack stand on the right front
jack point: you can see a white towel duck-taped to the top of the jack stand
at the bottom of the photo.
So in the front, the oval shaped hole is about 6 inches towards the rear of the
jack point and about 1 inch towards the center of the car. In the rear, the
oval shaped holes are right next to the jack point, about 1 inch to the center.
The rubber plugs fit these holes perfectly.

We used to have to pull out similar plugs from the frame rails on the Cayenne when customers complained of hearing water sloshing around during braking. We'd pull the plugs out and a gallon of water would come out of both frame rails. Maybe that's why the dealers are leaving them out during the PDI.

Interesting; I would have guessed that the plugs were intended to keep water from getting into the frame.
That's why I popped them into mine.
Next time I get home after driving in the rain, I will pull one of the plugs out and see what happens.
If water drains out, I guess I will pull the plugs.

Yup. I think I also got these. But never cared to fit them in lol...

Can you share a photo showing the location of the plug from the outside? maybe like highlighting with a marker...? I dont have a jack and will need to feel it out underneath to find the spot... :\

The fact that these plugs were not installed means the dealer didn't do their job or read instructions. It's step 7 in the PDI process.

Yeah those are your body plugs, they are supposed to be installed during the PDI. The tech that performed the PDI on your car got lazy. When I was a Tech Lead for my dealership, I yelled at a couple guys who didn't install those. I actually caught them throwing them away. Sure enough those fellas never got another new car PDI to this day.

Was browsing this site and found this post. My plugs were also in the glove box. Was bored so I went into the garage and installed them.

I bought a new RDX last month. It has six holes and comes with two plugs from the factory. The dealer installed the plugs in the wrong holes. I bought four more plugs and installed them myself. There was a noticeable decrease in road noise over coarse pavement after plugging all the holes.

My 2017 si had the plugs in the glove box since I picked up the car from the dealer. I just realized what they are. Is it worth putting them in now two years later. Or would it do more harm then good?
