Adam,
Retired AF here@25 yrs, Still involved is ‘bout all I wanna’ say here.

In VA detectors are illegal, can be fined, confiscated but not likely. It’d be good to take it down just prior and turn it off. I was there four months in ‘19. Forgot to turn mine off (it defaults on at start and found even with it out of view, truckers just keep theirs on but not viz. Advanced police radars can detect some and can play a little cat-mouse-gotcha game so if on, don’t be surprised if they ask where it is along with lic&reg read of this, not first hand exp). Mine can alert falsely on other detector I.F. Emmisions and using spectrum analyzer display and directional indications , it showed me this, kept it off unplugged after, not worth losing $600 Max 360 plus ticket fines.

I have a large Tonka black window sticker if you’d like to make ‘Tonk’ sound a real thing? Wife mandated withholdings if placed on Ridgeline. I’m not crazy about giving it away but might swap for refreshing non -alc beverage.

My recordings up there might have subtle clanking of golf club heads

Yeah I'll just take mine down when I get near the state line. I have an Escort Max 360c as well. Really nice device. Has saved me several times already. Depending on the terrain it usually picks up their Ka band around 30-60 seconds (around a mile) or so before they're in visual range. It's a good thing most cops just leave theirs on the whole time, makes it really easy to detect. If they were to just to sit with it off and then turn it on when you're already in sight you'd be boned either way lol. Annoying thing is the detector gets a lot of false readings, even in the middle of nowhere for some reason. If there's actually a threat it lights all the way up and rings steadily so it's easy to differentiate. False/weak readings just slowly beep.... continuously. Always find myself reaching over the center console to the 12v port and hitting the mute button. I mount mine right next to my camera which is just below the mirror so I can't exactly reach the mute button on the device. It should be very useful in NC on the tail.

The military has been zero-defect for awhile. You don’t really get to do anything wrong in your personal or professional life... they just replace you.

Here’s one from a couple weeks ago. No one really learns and grows from errors... because you’re gotten rid of unless you’re pretty junior. It’s sad... but it’s how things are. It’s been a long time coming.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/taskan...quadron-commander-his-job-2644999693.amp.html

It’ll be 18 this coming October. Made chief (E7) in 8 years and some change. Took that long again to get the next one. A very long 8 years. Glad you got out if it’s what you wanted. There’s still a big chunk of me that loves it, though many days I don’t really like it... if that makes sense. I see this next tour as my last hurrah. I never thought I’d make 7 and I did. Never thought I’d make 8 and they finally saw it fit to give it to me after years of eligibility. I doubt I’ll make 9 and, if I do... unless they let me kick babies and kiss ass or vice verse at the shore duty of my choice, I’ll probably ride off in the sunset from a sea tour.
Almost there! I got out in 2014 so there were still combat deployments and it wasn't full garrison mode. I got lucky (I guess in a way I later perceived it) when I got to my unit in 1st BCT 4thID they were in Afghanistan at the time, so I was on rear detatchment for a bit before they came back. At first I was bummed that I wouldn't get to actually do my job. Later on I made peace with it since being a combat arms MOS, whose job was to be out there first to do reconnaissance for the whole brigade before they roll in, (this of course is in the conventional warfare doctrine, not COIN) I dodged death/disability and full blown PTSD. When we did actually deploy it was to Kuwait.... to guard the Kuwaiti's own "Naval base". Being right on the persian gulf was wild, It would be 120-130 degrees and since it was on the water you'd get high humidity. The walls of the buildings and even the sand/dirt would get damp. One night it actually poured down rain, I woke up confused as hell wondering what on earth was going on as it pounded against the metal roof of our platoon bay. When I first came into Arifjan for processing it was coming from cool late summer/early fall Colorado weather to middle of the desert, the breeze hurts your face, you can just feel it radiating from the sand heat. Took me a week or so to acclimate. Most days I wouldn't bother going to lunch since the defac was pretty far away and I was in a sleep a bunch kinda mood since we weren't where we were supposed to be yet and didn't have anything to do. Also I didn't see a single cloud for 3-4 months straight. One day at my guard post I looked up and exclaimed, "What the hell is that!!" lol

I miss it sometimes, the comradery is unlike anything you would ever experience in the civilian world. You get paid to do things you would never get to experience otherwise. That is of course after countless hours waiting around wayyy earlier than you need to. We went to the national training center in the mojave desert, the terrain was incredible and very challenging. Got to do some of the craziest, thrilling, and most terrifying offroading you would ever get to do. Plus not worry about breaking anything and having to pay for it. I drove our hmmwv so hard that at one point I managed to snap half of the studs off one of the wheel hubs. Didn't notice it until daybreak after we sat in an OP over night. Drove it back to the HQ assembly area, grabbed a hacksaw and cut the welds of the bolts on the spare tire rack on the back of the truck, then put those into the wheel hub, good as new lol. There was a crazy amount of flat tires throughout the whole Squadron, I forget the actual number, well north of 100 I know. I just broke a wheel hub instead. Switched between being the driver and the gunner. We were sitting on the side of the mountain and I had eyes on an enemy OP 3-5 kilometers out with our LRASS (a giant half million dollar beast of an observation device, you can pick someone up 25k away with it) with an Apache hovering right over us as I relayed the grid and lased it with a seperate laser as the PEQ-15 on the .50 wasn't strong enough. Walked the laser onto target and from my position I only saw 2 of them, but behind down the hill there were 8 more sitting there. Our truck had the most "kills" in our Troop.
Not to mention all the cool excercises you get to do and things to shoot and blow up. This all equates to about maybe 2-4% of your time in. The other 96% is shitty details, cleaning, waiting around for final formation and copious amounts of bullshit. I would have destroyed my body if I stayed in, especially at that MOS. Changing MOS was never an option either to me, as a side effect of my pride, and "not wanting to be some bitch ass POG" (pronounced pogue) lolol

ON TOPIC:
Today I made my reservation at the resort and put in for vacation from work. All is a GO! Should probbbably change my oil before the trip as I'll be putting on a lot of miles.

Trying to be on topic here based on word choice not subject...

Adam,
Have you RESORTed to trying to update Max 360c firmware by connecting to a PC via USB, d/l util pgm from Escort, update if it detects there is one avail using save, drag to main folder, restart it in car? Highway mode might smite your sporadic MOFN dragons.

I don’t use the Dragon’s Tail looking half-curly tail cord anymore. Put my Escort fusebox to mirror cable remote mute/report button by left knee on outside of steering column travel range and the light is catchy when flashing, out of prime view when solid.

My flashing green dashcam is more annoying, trying to find dark tint sliver to stick over the LED. Went w/cheap mirror mount but by Tail time may have gotten a Blendmount, this thing jars loose too easy at front of detector pivot point.

ON Tapioca/topic:
So, Monday Fontana said no more reg type 2Q rooms avail at our rate. As a single they gave me king bed with fireplace in the lodge. Don’t know if it was good/bad but I felt like it was an upgrade, same price. I hope my bed isn’t in the lobby and folds up into a wall. That would ensure I make breakfast though.

Thanks for both your guys service, and all others out there too, career continues here dressed funny. Joint customers R our thang!

Yeah I hooked it up to my PC and made sure the firmware was up to date. Haven't tried just highway, it's been on auto. The only thing I've noticed using x band is school buses.

I reserved a cabin. I forget which kind specifically the lady on the phone said. Though she said it was in the section for the Civic X groups. I could've sworn she said a hickory, but on their site those are 2 bedrooms. Rate is $133 Friday through Sunday. I'm 95% sure it's a single bedroom cabin. Guess I'll have to wait to see if they email me an invoice/receipt for the payment I made on the first night. We're getting there Thursday and leaving Monday morning. All I know is if it's in the kinda close together section of cabins it's gonna be loud when everyone starts their car up in the morning. Mines slightly very obnoxious on cold start. No where close to 911 gt3 obnoxious, just a bit loud. Leaving my friend's one night I got a text "Jesus that cold start is loud" lolol. Good thing about the prl downpipe is that it gets to temperature pretty quickly.

Those who have been there are there any places closer/ other than robbinsville to fill up on 93? Would like to pinpoint fuel points beforehand and it looks like 93 is sparse on the Western side of NC. Wikipedia says over there in the hills 91 is "premium". I really really really don't want to detune and pull ignition timing. I've never messed with a 91 calibration and from what I've heard it's a little too aggressive/ gives knock retard

Neat little town. For the long drive later Saturday, there was a stop or two where there was 93... then ended back up in Robbinsville after making the loop. There was fuel at the resort as well at an old filling station. Maybe someone can confirm whether they had 93. Their hours were a little hit or miss. The time I stopped it was a miss.

93 is relevant to my interests. A quick google search seems to confirm Robbinsville has it. Looks like there's a Shell and Sunoco.

Looking through some other car, motorcycle forums someone stated they sell 110 octane around there.... LOL. I've always wanted to try 100 octane. On my 93 tune Im running 18 degrees of advance at the very top end on my current FBO setup. Comparing the ignition tables I've made for myself, they're pretty similar to the 100 octane base map.

I'll be spending a lottt on fuel that week. Having such a tiny tank and short range blows as well. Not to mention my driving style yields pretty poor gas mileage. It's hard to gauge during the work week because during lunch, and first thing in the morning I do a lot of idling that kills it. On a fresh tank and trip meter reset it'll usually be between 20-25mpg if I'm being conservative on it. The best I've ever seen was 29mpg on the 4th of July when I drove normally for once since there's always a bunch of state troopers out pulling people over.

Curious to see what I get over a long-ish 600 mile trip. I've never driven through a whole tank yet. I usually always fill up around the 1/4 Mark as I don't really have a good grasp of the fuel range on this, even after almost a year. I'm not used to driving something that's well under a range of 300.

As entertaining as a can of race fuel would be, it's probly unnecessary on those roads with your setup. Also, I wonder how accessible 100+ unleaded will be to find. Sunoco's site says the closest place is in Pigeon Forge, which is like 1.5 - 2 hrs away. You going corn soon? The flex fuel tunes look pretty good, and with the upgraded fuel system hondata is coming out with it will be even more viable.

Lol if I were going to an actual track I'd try 100.
No plans to try a flex blend, I drive a lot and am too lazy to blend fuel all the time lol. Plus I don't have anywhere to store ethanol. I'm hoping 4p or SOMEONE to make a DI pump for the bosche ecu at a reasonable price without a bunch of things we don't need or at least have a choice with. I'll go port injection before I spend 3 Grand on a small upgrade.

Even at the limit of what's possible without a bigger turbo and the stock fuel system, the power I'm at is more than enough for twisty roadways with short straights.

This thing really is the perfect twisty cutter. Handling could still be improved with a lower center of gravity, stiffer ARBs, and stickier tires. Though 265 ps a/s 3+ handle exceptionally well for what they are. It's pretty hard to hit their limit of grip. Traction, sure they'll spin with a bunch of tourque.

It would be cool to try 93 without ethanol, but e10 is all we have around here

Off topic, but on the subject of higher octane fuels but the lack of accessibility, @Myx just got a 100 octane fuel and a tune to specifically utilize it. He’s using an additive to get 100 octane... not from a pump. Most brick and mortar store octane boosters do maybe a point... many times a fraction of a point. Apparently this stuff actually raises it substantially. Might be worth checking out. He includes charts from the additive manufacturer and discusses the additional advance he gets. I don’t think he’s run 1/4 again yet to see if his traps went up the couple MPHs yet that he is expecting.

Since we’re almost going back by time machine in this area, is there an ESSO and Sinclair (the latter used to give away decent plastic dinosaurs when I was little, mid-late 60’s... 1960s not 1860s). Anyone else remember pre-Exxon and I thought Sinclair became BP (not the secret ingredient).

I’m from Gulf Coast of FL, would rather push vs use BP. I took boat tour of Destin w/kids class, saw about 20 bottlenose dolphins. Next day, huge tar mats moved in from spill, killed fishing village income, and about half the dolphins, I’m not bitter, still freakin’ angry, greed inaction (double pun score).

I know it’s farther to TN seems to have more 93, prolly just 85 mixed with moonshine.

Three years ago we went on the Bryson City holiday railroad tour about 50 miles E, The areas decorated were nice, train goes beyond, couldn’t hide the depressed economy and 4-door gardens and lotsa’ Union Jacks. Apparently garbage is picked every Feb 29th, need it or not. Strangest thing was some old copper plumbing and tanks in a front yard with a touching love note displayed:
“I love you still”.

I also learnt a bagel ain’t sum-tin y’eat. It’s them howlin dawgs y’keep in a box in back yer truck.

Try any local airstrip and the beans at any BBQ luncheonette if you want to get some potent gas.

Hello everyone!

I just made my account here for this! My wife and I are making a trip to Gatlinburg for an extended weekend getaway. Being a former local to the area I searched for different events that will be happening while I was in the town. I am a new CTR owner as of this year and will be thrilled to see some others while I tear up the dragon.

One thing I would like to mention was that I happened across this event by accident. It would be very beneficial for the event planner to notify killboy of our attendance. They can update their website and Facebook page with our event. Killboy will also group all Civics together on their photo website. Therr is also a pride event running concurrent with this as well.

I signed up and paid registration fees. I won't be there all weekend but I will be there most of Friday and maybe some in Saturday. It was worth it for the T-shirt at minimum.
