Then the civic will not have paddle shift on any version ?
The transmission cvt without paddle shift is bad, very BAD !
Paddle shift on a CVT is bad, very bad because you're introducing fake gear changes and slight pauses which interrupts the continuous acceleration you typically get with CVTs, thus, you get a slower 0-60 time than if you just leave it in drive.

Makes sense when talking about up shifting. But what about downshifting? Downshifting with paddles could get you down into a more powerful RPM range for acceleration no?

Have you used the CVT of audi or toyota ? In sport mode there is a simulation of 7 marches and the best time from 0 to 60 mph occur using the sport mode.

Yes, exactly !

You said it yourself, a SIMULATION of 7 marches. They aren't real gear changes. I have used paddle shifters on a Nissan Maxima. You don't accelerate any faster but you do get a better driving sensation, that's it.

Now I'm confused. Some members have said that the gear changes with paddle shifters aren't just to simulate a faster acceleration sensation but that it actually does drop you down into a torquier RPM so you can accelerate faster.

That's what was said in the thread I started asking this exact thing - http://www.civicx.com/threads/what-do-cvt-paddle-shifters-actually-do.199/

If you really want to shift yourself, then there's the 6 speed manual on the 2016 Civic LX. There will also be a manual on the Si, whenever that appears.

If you want to accelerate faster, on the new auto transmission there's going to be a Sport mode on the gearshift selector. If you accelerate in S mode, you'll get to 60 faster.

Those who want paddle shifters will need to move to the Accord Sport, to the Acura ILX or TLX, or to another brand.
