Wondering if I am able to unlock a Ktuner device without the car it's locked to? I made the mistake of trading in my civic without flashing it back to stock.

If I screwed myself then it's my own fault and I will deal with it but I wanted to get confirmation before deciding what to do with my ktuner device.

You need the car and flash it back to factory to be able to unlock it.

If you don't mind me asking how much did this cost you?

The title of this thread is correct so I'll use it.

I need to take my Si into the dealer for an oil change for the first time since I flashed the car. So I "Returned the Car to Factory Tune" successfully.

I noticed that if I take my car in for service that I should also "unlock' my ECU from the ktuner.

So after I had returned my car to "Factory Tune", I selected "Unlock ECU".

The message that came back was the the "Unlock ECU" was "unsuccessful". Also I got a "Failed to authenticate from the server" message. Interesting.

The dialog box next said that I should retry "Unlock ECU". Unfortunately that option was grayed out with only "Return to Factory" available.

So I opened my browser to verify that my laptop was still "online". It was.

I followed directions and unhooked the Ktuner 1.2 module from both the car and the laptop for a few minutes.

When I reconnected my laptop, I got a dialog box that said it needed to "reconnect" or "reconform" my laptop to the Ktuner module. I clicked "ok" and it did it's thing.

Then I reconnected the rig to the car. The only option available was "Return to Factory Tune". Ok, I had already done that, but software being software I let it do it again.

The software did it's thing and successfully reloaded a factor tune over the factory tune. I followed directions again until of was done and I attempted to "Unlock ECU" again.

It failed again with the same message. I once again checked to make sure that my laptop was "online", it was.

At that point I decided to stop reprogramming my ECU over and over because a bricked ECU would be it's own problem.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can "Unlock" my Ktuner from my ECU?

If you can update your account in the account management window successfully, so you know your details are entered properly, then you should be able to connect to your ECU on a factory tune and have the unlock option available for 30 seconds. That is stated in the help for locking/unlocking under the V1.2 device.

I've been having the very same issue with my v1.2 unit. Trading a few e-mails back and forth, Ktuner's best advice is to check my Internet connection. It seems a bit hopeless for the time being. Did you solve the issue anyways?

You emailed us back saying you still couldn't get it, but still hadn't actually tried again. Just checked and still no attempts since the original email exchanges. You should actually try again.

I just had time to try after work. It seems that I succeeded. My unit shows it’s now unlocked. Would you mind checking with your DB?

Best,

Best,
In the instructions I mentioned it tells you to plug it in without the vehicle connected and what message to expect if it's unlocked. It also mentioned in the success message what color of LED to expect. Both of these options can be used to verify.
