I am planning on opening up (with a dremel) the official uniden hardwire breakout box with mute button. I am planning to desolder the alert led and the mute button and solder cables to run them into my center console to connect to a momentary led button mounted though a button blank.
My concern is that the led is most likely 3.3v, and given the length of wire, I may experience voltage drop by the time the current reaches the button. Has anybody done this modification? The momentary led button is rated at 3-6v so I need to minimize voltage drop or wire in a small relay to step up the current (with a resister to step down the relay load current from 12v to 6v or less).
Any suggestions?
