Awd vs. Fwd is unfair in drag race. It also didn't help that the numb nuts in the Type-R was in 1st gear for like 5 minutes! Lol

Not surprising. DSG, AWD & launch control versus MT, FWD & no launch control = drag beat down. That said, Honda doesn't make cars that necessarily excel in any ONE performance category. They have always made cars that are really good in most all driving aspects, EXCEPT off the line, 0-60 times. As a whole, I'm sure the CTR performs very well on the street/track, but a drag car it is not.

It's all about traction when launching. FWD is the worst because when you accelerate the weight of the car shifts to the back tires, creating wheel spin. Spinning ain't winning.

And the WRX STI equals/beats them both - but who will want it and who in the USA can purchase/afford to maintain a VW Type R?

STI will get beat by the Golf R with DSG no problem at all..... The VW Golf R is a pretty reasonably cheap car also has a 5 year 100,000km power train warranty. That is a bit of a silly comment, obviously there are people that can easily afford a 40k MSRP car lol.

Golf R at 292hp beat the 350HP Focus rs.... How do you think the STI will do? lol.

Very well! 0-60 Times lists 2015 VW Golf Type R DSG as 4.5 sec / 13.0 - 2015 STI as 4.6 / 13.2 quarter-mile
Sounds like they're pretty even in a drag race and the STI is "handicapped" with a stick-shift!
From what I've read (not a lot 'cause neither brand would be on my want list) neither is very good as a daily driver - the R because of the clunky DSG and the STI because of build quality and comfort.
My comment about "afford" was more to availability, reliability, and cost to maintain or repair a VW product.

AWD launch will always be king out of the hole.

From a roll type R will shine. But this is not what the car was made for anyways, what about lap numbers.

I want to know what the CTR traps in the quarter.. I am hoping for about 108 MPH or higher.. My 332 hp 2009 370Z got 106-107mph which weighs 3300 lbs.. The CTR weighs at 3000~ lbs from what i've read.. Wishful thinking though. Strangely 3000 lbs is heavier than even the fully loaded Touring sedan which only weighs 2930lbs. The CTR should be lighter I would think.

Don't you miss the sub 2500lb civic days? safety is heavy. hard to blame honda. i do wish that side/curtain airbags were optional and that 20lb or less rims were available. i would shoot for lower but i think the CTR rims are 19" and i'm guessing a lightweight 19" rim bottoms out around 16lbs? could do away with back seats and some trim for a DIY weight reduction. maybe 100lbs there.

the 2016 Camaro SS features no lift shifts on the M6 and still the a8 is faster, 12.2 in the 1/4 vs 12.4. My FBO M6 is zero to 60 in 3.7 seconds or so. The auto is faster, next year the Camaro will have a 10 speed. So yes DSG or auto are now faster, but sorry something's wrong with that Focus is you ask me. I'm glad I rolled the 2015 SI, cause with supercharger it is about the fastest thing FWD. I also have a 275 HP NA Type R with sleeved 2.1 liter engine that I used to hunt R/Ts, weight is about 2400 lbs. Its about as quick as the SI but the SI is faster, it is all power under the curve and the supercharged 2.4 just has way more power despite its 3100 lbs. Put it into perspective that Focus is close to the weight of my Camaro at 500 NA HP FBO about 3650 lbs, I assume the Focus gotta be close.

just checked:
http://www.caranddriver.com/ford/focus-rs

350 HP and 3450 lbs...

Well the more and more I learn the happier I am with the new lighter Camaro. Note to Honda, lets get this Type R under 3000 lbs... What is with all this 4 banger weight gain?

the 4wd gained .7 seconds 0-60 and maintained it thru the 1/4 mile. After owning and driving two type R since 1997, the saying goes if you drag race a type R, you're doing it wrong.
