Hello all

Happy 4th!

Curious on people's thoughts with wheel lug locks. Are you guys using them? Or just using a decent aftermarket lug nut. I can't decide if it's worth the hassle and if they actual work.

I mean, do you live in an area where you would be scared of someone stealing your wheels? Is your car secured at night? Me personally, on all my cars I’ve never felt the need for wheel locks.

I feel like wheel locks are an easy/cheap(ish) low-level countermeasure, but I also know that a determined thief will defeat any wheel lock setup.

I park in garage overnight and not too worried when at work. Car is not a DD. Will likely drive to work 1 or 2 times / week.

I mean - how much time does it take a thief to remove a wheel lock vs a standard wheel nut. I just assume we are talking about minutes before a wheel is off ...

Are McGard / Gorilla locks worth the $50 and hassle about keeping the key for wheel rotations / emergencies (flats) ??

Also - would wheels need to be rebalanced if changing wheel locks?

Wheel locks are a great idea, if the thief doesn't have a set of these.

Gorilla style lug nuts are a good alternative if you need a set of aftermarket lug nuts for non OE wheels as they are cheap and somewhat durable. But, if you are looking for security, I'm sure 90% of the people on this forum have a spline key to remove those style lug nuts. You can buy them from any auto parts store.

I ditched my OEM locks on pure looks alone. Looks much better with 5 lugs. My car is garaged and when I drive it I don't leave it anywhere (parking lots, etc.) so I don't worry about someone jacking my wheels.

Dailying the R. Not worried about it at work. But, its parked out in my driveway when its at home. So I rather have wheel locks on as something better than nothing.
