The verdict is in on what failed in my 2018 Si (ended up being exactly what I thought)

Number 2 injector failed. I suspect it was progressively failing for quite some time.

Another 2018 was in the shop for injectors/high pressure pump/ wiring harness replacement the day I traded lol.

Anyone who thinks injectors are not a common problem should be aware that they are.

Even with premium top tier fuel always. I was strict.

If I get on the car within the first 10 minutes of driving (after it's at operating temp), the car can break up on the top-end in 3rd to 4th gear. To me, it's absolutely the injectors struggling. I ran E40 for about 8 months with zero issues. All of a sudden, it's starting to happen. If I switch to full 91, it doesn't happen as much. I was planning on ordering another set of injectors to swap out.

wait they let you trade your car in with a failed injector?
No different than anyone else that gets aggravated at a car with a re-occurring check engine light and doesn't want to deal with it any more. Checked into service and walk to sales and traded in.

I took the negative equity hit so why should Honda care?

I would never run ethanol in a 10th with what I now know.

Does this mean it would be worth using something like lucas ethanol treatment/stabilizer along with flex fuel setups? Probably going to be my plan of attack when i get there

I would say a lot of the problems I have seen with this engine (engine components is a better word), ethanol has been in the picture. I ran her hard, very hard for the year I owned it on TSP Stage 1 using Map 2 a lot, especially the last 6 months and never had one problem. Zero. I am only guessing, but running E30 or E40, ethanol gets into the oil and breaks it down faster. We all know Ethanol is a great solvent.

On another note, how are you liking the 2020 as compared to the previous model you owned?

I love it. I started a thread about the differences. So refreshing (pun intended).

But you aren't talking about the E10 we have here in Maryland right? You mean more of a flex fuel type setup?

No, E10 is fine. Most cars on the road are designed for E10. Here in CA you have no choice, E10 is in all gasoline. He is referring to E30 or E40 etc where you have to install a Flex fuel kit
