I use the steering wheel controls quite a bit. Not in love with the touch screen. On the way to work I scroll through radio presets (left and right click) and between FM and SXM (Up down click).

That little circle button feels terrible. Worse than a 20 year old Nintendo controller. Any chance mine is defective or are they just junk?

It just doesn't have a very nice feel. Sometimes it gives a solid click, sometimes it feels like it gets stuck and you have to press it again harder. The small circular plastic piece you touch is just floating above some buttons below I guess. I can feel it wiggling around. Its stinks, this it the part of the car I use the most.

Much less the craptastic buttons... The interface itself is UNGODLY slow and laggy. If you Honda Hack it and run something like Waze at the same time as trying to access the climate control you may as well send the inputs by pigeon or columbus' caravel. Literally a 5-6 second wait.

feels cheap, because it is - lol

Despite that, it's working for nearly everyone quite consistently

Consider visiting a dealer and trying the button on another car to compare

Agreed - the HU is underpowered. Running Netflix results in a very slight audio lag, mouths are just a few ms behind the audio. It's tolerable. Unable to get Google Services Framework to install on HU, so I cannot install apps which use it, such as youtube. But the Honda Hack app offers a functional and workable alternative to view youtube. It's tolerable. The stock keyboard locks out when the vehicle is moving, but replacing it with gboard avoids that issue. It's tolerable.

With an app like Waze, I want the most up to date version functioning as intended. So I have zero desire to run that natively on the HU. Instead I would dedicate an android phone to run it. My dash has two phone mounts on it, and I have a dedicated phone for use with Escort's radar detector companion app (or if in VA, Waze).

There is the 3rd party android HU designed to replace our HU, but thus far I've got the functionality I need and can avoid the expense and headache of replacing the stock HU. For others though..... it's an option.

Thank you Micah! It looks like it handles all the same built-in Honda features but with a more responsive interface. Bummer that I'm an Apple fanboy though so no more Apple Car Play but I have used that only one time since it requires a phone to be plugged in.

You should switch to a smartphone ;) (also requires being plugged in, supposedly a future version of Android Auto will enable bluetooth link for AA)

Oh I'm an Apple phone user till I die lol... But I did the idea of a faster processing headunit especially for that price. I'm assuming the installation is rather simple since it's a direct plug in play. I just wonder how it would interact with something like the KTuner Application.

i'm hoping for the 2019 refresh, we can swap the hardware inside. In the end its just an android powered unit. I would hope they've standardized the harnesses internally.

Wireless CarPlay already exists, but only a few head units have it. Hopefully it will trickle down soon.

I don’t need a Honda manufacturer sponsored head unit since I’m sure that would be $1300 or so... versus a $300 option! I just want to be sure whatever I’m swapping over to has been tested in the community and others notice a good deal of speed increase :)

Ultimately I just want to be able to enter my car. Load Waze quickly. Stream some Donut Media or my Podcasts... not asking for much! But currently asking the head unit to do Waze and anything else is a struggle.

Waze works through Android Auto just fine. Pretty sure podcasts can be listened to with several apps via Android auto. Only one I listen to is ShatOnTV via YouTube. Android ....just works better

Maybe pick up an old Android device from a friend to borrow/test and use your Apple device for tethering

Yeah, I've used spotify, pocket cast, and Google maps no problem with Android auto. Love it.
