? for the members who have had the aftermarket HID's for awhile...how do they hold up? Any issues? Do the bulbs last a long time?

Thanks.

If you don't buy junk, and wire it properly, a Xenon bulb typically lasts 3x longer than a halogen. And it's not any less reliable, again, as long as quality ballasts and hardware is used, everything is properly powered and grounded, relays are set up right, etc.

It takes some time, and money, but the performance is definitely worth it. I recommend Xenon Depot's H11 Xtreme HID kit, but there are other good ones out there.

They will last a long time if you go with a quality kit. In fact, if you have a burning hole in your wallet, do a retrofit and put some D2S projectors to get you better results. Hylux, GTR-Lighting, Morimoto, Denso, and Matsuhita are all of quality ballasts.
Avoid any of those eBay brands such as Xentec, Kensun, DDM Tuning and any of those cheap Chinese brands. They will give you problems at some point.

So I got a night shot for you

The difference is huge! These light up the road a lot better and shine much farther. The light is a nice clean white light which shouldn't bother anyone. The light cut off is also surprisingly good. Obviously it's not as sharp as a true retrofit projector but when I tested it against Parked cars, the light would only reach up to their license plates. So you won't be bothering anyone by lightning up their cabin. Overall very happy that I decided to do this.

Which light kit do you have? Could you send me a link.

Hi Everyone. I originally had an 06 Accord with an rx350 clear lens and custom shield HID retro done by myself which was great but now with the 16 civic I wanted that light back. I was lazy so I thought LED had come far enough and bought the Morimoto 2Stroke LED bulbs 10,000LB 6,000k which looked cool but had less distance than stock halogens. I returned them and finally installed the Morimoto 35 watt 5,500k bulbs. Thanks everyone for your suggestions as to where to mount the ballasts. It was very helpful so I want to show what I did. Also I have the Philips x-treme led fog lights 6,000k which I highly recommend.

By the way I ordered the H11b bulbs so the return wire is at the bottom, but there was still a bit of shadow in the middle of the beam. I was under the impression light is reflected up and out so you want the wire below and this won't be an issue. By having the return wire at the bottom does that make it better but it's still a little visible? I can live with it, just wanted to reach out and see.
Edit: Found out it is really bad if you get the H11 bulb vs H11b. It is just a little visible which is something I can totally deal with and fell better about now.

This is the finished product. Also the Morimoto ballasts now have chrome brackets instead of the orange paint. I removed the plastic lip above the radiator to attach the wiring harness.

On the drivers side, I used a nut and bolt to attach the fuses to the side which had an available hole. I did not drill any holes as this is a lease. I mounted the ballast near the fuse box and bent the tabs on top over.

On the passenger side I just removed the bracket on the ballast and ziptied it to the top like Nyjeee did. Thank you for the idea as I was stumped on where it could go nicely.

This is a view from the back trying to show that I attached/hid the wires nicely under that black support in front of the plastic turbo pipe.

Here is a picture of the output with foglights on. The ground is wet so it won't look as impressive.

This is a dark alley without my fog lights on. I don't think there is any glare, it's just that the ground is wet and reflecting the light up.

The cutoff is on the curb with the car angled down and light across 2 lanes.

It didn't rain today so I took a couple more pics. It's very hard to capture the lights accurately but they seem to at least light up about half way down the block pretty well. I also have my LED fogs on but that just adds some close up and width. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend. There are some visible streaks of light coming from the bulbs (not a perfectly even spread of light) but even some oem hid cars have that and it is the best lighting you can get without a full retrofit so I am very happy.

I think the HID has too much light from that squirrel finder? That looks like halogen bulb output above the cutoff with slightly reduced output.

I haven't stood in front of my car to verify but I think it has about the same amount of light coming out of the squirrel finder. I happen to have some examples as I have had all 3 types of headlight bulbs in my projector headlights.

Here you go, Danny17. Morimoto kit w/ 4500K bulbs. Used only the included brackets, wiring harness w/ relays & zip ties to tidy up the wiring:
