Clec mount is horrible.. shakes like crazy while driving.. i stick to my magnetic mount with double sided tape.. does not move at all and you can keep your eyes straight on the road.

it utilizes the top piece of the gauge cluster cover as a wedge so that it has zero movement.. blocks about 15% of that ac vent... but thats why i have the passenger side as well..

best position to place it in my opinion... does not work via landscape function tho.. only vertical.

If you don't mind me asking, which part shakes while driving? Is it the mount that attaches around the emergency light button, or the phone holder? For me at least, the mount itself doesn't move at all. Earlier, however, I noted little vibration coming from the attachment point between the mount and the phone holder -- a small piece of very thin cardboard used as a shim fix that problem in 5 seconds for me.

You have a neat solution. Would the double sided tape mar or damage the dash trim when the mount is eventually removed? I have had bad experience with that situation in my prior cars. Also, do you use wireless charging at home? How do you get around the magnet (on a case or on the phone itself) blocking the charging mechanism?

i have friends that have those mounts.. quickly sold it because it was just shaking too much.. nowadays phones are bigger.. gets heavier and with phone cases.. it just becomes heavy.. that mount has the right idea as a clip on but its not as sturdy as mine.
Ok...I understand, but if you change out the supplied magnet holder with the one I suggested in the link I provided to my other post, this solved the issue completely. The WizGear magnet mount is quite a bit stronger. Not trying to be pushy, just stating my experience.

I have the CF look mount in the OP. It's very solid, doesn't move at all, the best mount I've ever had period. Fits both regular iPhone and Max/Plus size. No jiggling and no movement.

The swivel ball is secured to the back of the phone holder, and the rectangular attachment goes into the mount. I am probably not explaining it well, so I attached a couple of photos of the back of the attachment mechanism (as mentioned in the OP, I am using a different phone holder to connect to this mount for now). It's been very secure for me, even when I hit bad bumps.

See the YouTube video embedded by r712 above for instructions on how to remove the headunit.
May I ask where you got that charger? Can't find it on Amazon. Been searching around but got nothing =(

Thanks!

I bought that one as well to try. It is quite a bit better than the supplied one. The WizGear one has 6 magnets in it vs 4 in that one. ...and is notably stronger yet. It also has a larger surface area and with a larger adhesive plate (not a round one but a rectangle one) on the back of the phone it is so much better than the supplied one it's not funny.

I've got the CLEC mount as well and it's honestly the best mount I have ever had for a car, mine does not vibrate at all. I put my phone down into the arms of the holder and kinda give just the slightest push with 1 finger down and it seems to squeeze the phone.

@bri The CLEC carbon fiber mount says it holds phones up to 5" but aren't the iPhone XS Max larger, like 6"? If the carbon-fiber one is meant for smaller phones, I'll get the non-carbon fiber one, which says it holds phones up to 6".
The Max fits. Just need to turn slightly putting it in to fit past the hooks.

Found a custom-fit phone mount for CivicX on Amazon. There are two parts to this thing: a 10th Gen Civic-specific base that fits snugly over the hazard light button (no worries, you would still have access to the button). This base just snaps into place, so it is very easily removed without damage to the car.

Then there are three kinds of attachments - two types of gravity/friction mounts (carbon fiber look and stainless steel look) and a magnetic mount (see photos). The gravity/friction mount closes the side arms when the phone pushes down on the base by gravity. When you lift the phone off the base, the side arms loosens up. Pretty cool. The mounts are interchangeable and you can substitute one with another in a few seconds.

You can get both types of mounts (~$28 shipped)[I chose this one], or buy just one (~$21-30 shipped, each). They are shipped from China, and I got it in about 9 days.

What's also cool is that the mount uses the universal swivel ball head joint, so you can substitute the mount with something you already have. In fact, I am using a Qi wireless charger mount (even though I am not using the wireless charging feature at this point, since I use CarPlay).

Pretty satisfied with the product so far. It is a very secure mount. Will update if anything changes. Just wanted to share.

Tip: If you, like me, detest any cords hanging where it is visible, it's very easy to run a cable up through the center console, and behind the headunit to the phone. You just need to take out the headunit, which takes no more than 10 minutes.

I just got the clec mount for the hazard switch. The one with the arms. But I’m pairing it with a usb to lightning magnetic data sync cable so I don’t have to physically plug it in. I hope it will work the way I imagine it should. LoL

The magnet bit in the phone attracts the cable end from a good 1/2” away. And the connection seems secure. I’ll be installing it later tonight. I’ll post after instal.
