Whenever I buy a new car, I try to always opt for memory seats. Unfortunately, they were not available on the Civic.
Memory seats are important to me, because I am OCD about the seating position. Once I nail the perfect spot, I don't want anyone to change it. However, that is unavoidable (my wife also drives the car, plus valet situations and service technicians, etc.)
So I came up with a makeshift solution that I think will enable me to find the exact position I like.
Still a work in progress but I wanted to post about it here.
The answer is..... LASER!
The basic idea is that I install a laser pointer in both the seat bottom and the seat back part and mark their projected points inside the car.
Here is how I'm doing it:
Ordered a 10-pack of laser modules for a $1.65 from China, including shipping!!!! I'm not kidding....
Also ordered a headrest mounted iPad holder. Not to hold anything, but to create a solid mounting point in the seat back. (Everything is soft cloth, hard to mount a fixed laser pointer anywhere.)
I drilled one of the lasers into this iPad mount:
Then proceeded to mount it under the headrest:
Laser test:
Marker point - this is where the seat should be pointing:
Then, I drilled another laser into the seat base:
This is where the project currently stands.
Next, I am going to get a 4x AA battery case and mount it somewhere under the seat with an easy to access momentary button to illuminate the lasers.
I could also use some advice -- I cannot find a clean way to route the cable from the headrest down to the seat base. I was unable to peel away the cloth seat cover or snake it underneath. ANY SUGGESTIONS?!
