In 1950, I was 12 years old. At that time, we were really just kids,
There was no TV, no internet..just books.
For me, the year 2000 was a magical date that I probably wouldn't see.
Life expectancy was shorter than today and I saw relatives,
family friends...dying relatively young.
And then I saw the year 2000 and I have been seeing it for 20 years.
I wish you all a good and happy year 2020 and I wish you to see 2050
and beyond for many years to come.

I remember in 1980 I was 12 years old and my 7th grade science teacher said to us in twenty years it’ll be the year 2000. Back then 20 years seem like a long time wow that was 40 years ago
Happy New Years to you

To Civics4ever,
61+30, why not ? Nowadays, a lot of people are over 90.
Do I wish you that ? Not really and I'll tell you why.
My father lived to be 98. Even though he was healthy
and independant ( he drove until he was 95 ) he told me
that from the age of 85, he started to find the time long.
The reasons was not only physical but also psychological,
environmental and societal.
Now, at 81 years old, I understand what he meant.
I am starting to feel a bit like a stranger in this world that
I no longer recognize.
Anyway, I hope I don't live that long.

You don’t realize how society changes

Lol, I've been sick of society for quite a while. Growing up through the 70's was fun though.
And I shouldn't complain, 9 years ago, I found my 1st girlfriend from high school on FB. She and I hadn't seen each other in 34 years. We have been together ever since.

Even in 10-15 years the civicx forums will not be a message board, but basically an archive for those who bought a 10th gen as a project or beater. And on the 12th gen forums there will probably be a few that talk about the good old days of the civicx forums, if forums are even alive at that point

I will be 1 year away from 60 and Hong Kong will fully merge back to China by then.

Happy new year everyone. I hope everyone has a safe year. Best wishes on whatever you are doing.

That is so true. I’m 72 and it is literally an entirely different world... and not in a good/positive way. I’m not a pessimist by nature but I see more bad than good, more negative than positive. Over the holidays I told my 30ish nieces that I’m glad I won’t be around to see how bad things will be when their kids grow up❗Unless/until the world wakes up to how much we are screwing up this beautiful planet. Some will say that awareness is hightening...that’s great but I see so little action.

Nieces Bucket list: see whales while we have them, swim coral reefs before they all die, ski a glacier while they are still here; continue to pray (if that’s your thing) for peace. But don’t lose sight that positive change WILL require sacrifice...and not just for others.

Thus endith my rant/lecture...sorry.

I am not surprised to see that I am not the only one who feel bad
in this world which evolves dangerously towards its end if we don't
change our behavior drastically.
One would have thought that the current means of communication
would allow people to get closer but it is not the case, everyone
lives in his bubble.
Me too, I regret the beautiful years ( 60, 70 ). Today, it is individualism
and the consumption pushed to the extreme.
WHAT ABOUT CIVICX in 2050?
Will there still be Civics ? Will they be electric ? Will they be hydrogen-powered ?
Or a new technology that is still unknown ? May be they'll be autonomous and
we won't drive anymore ?
Fortunately, at the moment, I am happy to drive my SI and I am very happy
to see your reactions, your answers.

Just thinking about cars 30 years ago. Engines trying to claw back after the emissions and economy standards pushed in the 70s... with iron about to give way to aluminum all over for engines. ABS... 3rd brake lights... airbags... all getting adopted. Cassettes were still in. It wasn’t unusual to find older cars with 8 tracks. Fuel injection common, but no OBD2 or standardization... so troubleshooting was trash and people still swore by carburetors because your didn’t need a computer at the dealer to fix it’.

30 before that? Minimal safety. No stability control. No ABS. No emissions control systems. Relatively inefficient. Large engines... some with good output, but most of the cars accelerated poorly and handled worse.

30 years from now? I don’t know. I’d be 67. My dad passed at 72. My grandfather at 78. I kind of pondered the fact, last year, I was 1/2 my dad age at his end. Hopefully I’m still kicking and retired or retiring and ready to take my pension, social security and all my retirement savings and burn the candle at both ends before I’m done... and my lady is still my partner in crime.

I just hope I can drive the damn cars at that time myself and they’re not driving me around w/o any ability to intervene with my old but willing reflexes.

To charleswrivers,
Your post made me think what I had in France, almost 52 years ago,
before I moved to Québec.
I had a Renault R8 Gordini. It was a light body with 1.3L engine,
2 Weber double body carburettors, about 100 hp at 7000rpm
with a special kit.
There were already 4 disc brakes and 5 gears. It had a good road handling,
it was lively, pleasant to drive and economical in fuel.
On the other hand, carburetion and ignition adjustments often had to be made,
When I arrived in Québec, I was struck by the difference: big cars, big engines,
huge power, insane acceleration...but poor handling, hazardous breaking
and gargantuan consumption.
But I freaked out, I bought a 1968 Mustang GT, 6.4 L, 335 hp.
It was a good time but, to be honest, I prefer by far my modified SI.

I am continuing my post from yesterday.
In 1973-74, there was the first oil crisis and gasoline became
scarce and expensive.
US manufacturers quickly produced more fuel efficient cars
which was a real crap. The Ford Pinto, Chevrolet Vega and others
were complete failures.
It was the end of the muscle cars as we knew them.
They will come back later but more evolved.
It wasn't those powerful, light, stripped down cars anymore.
I bought a Renault 12 and later a 15. They were economical, reliable
and with front wheel drive, it was more pratical in the snow.

And finally, we have to come full circle.
So, the cars produced in the following years were not better:
Plymouth Sundance, Turismo, Reliant K...the engine was a
2,3 L ( Mexico ) not very powerful ( less than 100 hp ) ,rough,
wheezy...All this contribued to the more arrival of foreign cars:
Honda,of course, Mitsubishi,Toyota, Datsun ( now Nissan ) and,
here, a lot of Subaru, without forgetting Volkswagen with its
Rabbit ( now Gulf ).
I remenber I bought a Mitsubishi Colt TURBO that I liked a lot,
it didn't cost a penny in 90000 km.
In 1990, I had my first SI. You wouldn't have liked it: noisy, hard,
not very pleasant to drive. I only kept it 18 months and then,
I went to Acura. After 3 Integra and a RSX type S, I came back
to Honda and SI in 2006.
You see, we always come back to Civic.
There will always be Civics. In 2050, I'll be long dead but, you,
the younger ones, will still be able to enjoy them.
