I have a 2018 FK8 that is coming up on 1 year next month. I have about 2.6K miles on it in the 1st year and it hasn’t been track driven. Since I am coming up to 1 year it seems like an oil change is necessary even though the low miles. Should I be replacing the filter too? I am looking at using Pennzoil Ultra Premium 0-20, but would like to know all your thoughts about replacing the oil filter and if I should.

Thanks in advance

oil filter change should never be a question. oem honda is $5 each if you buy online with a 6 pack order. it's cheap security for longevity of the car. they come with a new crush washer (20 cents) for the drain plug too which should be replaced each time.

go for it.

Should I be using the honda oil? I can get the PUP for about 20USD when it comes on sale in the 5L jug. Problem is I have to buy 2 for the 5.7 Q

that's really up to you. honda full synthetic is fine. all personal choice and long debates (and arguments). generally speaking use group 5 synthetic, LSI certified, low evaporation level rating.

honda oem, mobil 1 extended performance, red line, liqui moly, amsoil, etc. are all just fine, but some will swear to their grave with certain brands. i use mobil 1 0w20 for winter months and about to change over to red line 5w30 for warmer weather now in columbus, oh.

just don't skimp out on oil, filter, etc. based purely on price. car needs good blood and runs hot so need good oil to keep temps down.

How does Pennzoil Ultra Platinum compare to that group?

Oh no, another oil thread!
I can only give you personal experience. I've used Mobile1 for 25 years, also their M110A filters as the Honda A02 filters are, at best, adequate. I use Mobil1 0W-20 EP in my turbo engine as it has a more robust additive package than the AFE. If Honda still had the A01 filter regularly available, I'd be comfortable using the Honda 0W-20 full synthetic and that filter. I have confidence in the M110A and the M1 0W-20 EP, change every 5k, my Honda Certified Master Mechanic agrees. I usually get the 5-quart/filter deal at either Advance or Auto Zone for $34 or so. With a higher output turbocharged engine like the SI or Type R, a premium oil & filter is a good investment in longevity. JMHO

I know, I’m sorry,

Should I be waiting for my indicator to turn on, or should I be changing my oil at the 1 year mark with 2.6K miles on it

I have a daily driven R. Those who goes by mileage, rather than time, when do you guys usually change your synthetic oil? I kinda just been setting myself a standard 7500 miles since the previous car I have.

I had mine done a few weeks ago and was at 2000 miles. The car sat all winter so I decided to go get the oil changed. I took it to Honda since I want a good mechanical record attached to the car and I asked about Mobile One and the Honda oil. The tech told me that the Honda oil was actually Mobile One and was basically identical. I took the techs word and had it changed with the Honda oil.
He also told me that the Mobil One is more expensive because they only have that in quarts vs. Big drums.

Yeah from what I've seen, Honda oil is made by Exxon-Mobil

In the European owner's manual, it clearly states "if you're going to use 0W20, make sure to use Honda 0W20 Type 2.0." This is not at all the same oil that the dealership puts into other Honda engines calling for 0W20. It sells for about US$20 a litre and I believe that it's made by Idemitsu. The manual also says that, if you don't use the Type 2.0 stuff, to use 0W30 or 5W30. I use 5W30 (Motul or Redline) but my car is in Greece where it's REALLY hot in the summer and warm all year round.

I do 5,000 miles or once 12 months whichever comes first on the clock for every car of mine. I only drive 1,000 to 5,000 miles max per car per year.

I had just over 1,000 miles on mine on its first birthday this month. I used Mobil 1 0W-20 and a Mobil 1 M110A filter.

As others have noted, I change the oil and filter in all my vehicles annually, regardless of how few miles they've been driven.
