I am waiting for a 2018 SI. Since I’m in Canada, there is no option to get summer tires at point of purchase.

So, I am stuck with the stock all season tires. I have 4 options; all in Canadian funds including installation and local tax:
1. Use up the OE all season tires for the 1st winter then buy new summer tires next summer.
2. Buy 18-inch winter tires and use the stock wheels. $1200
3. Downsize to 17 inch with Enkei alloy wheels. $2,700
4. Downsize to 17 inch with black steel rims. $1,400

Which option will you take?

Too bad we do not have the summer tire option in Canada. Otherwise, I will have only 2 choices, #3 and #4.

I first got my hatch sport in January and the continentals did good enough in the snow but if you get anything more than an inch of snow they won't get grip at all. I'm near Vancouver so our winters are fairly mild so if your anywhere east of the lower mainland I'd suggest getting real winters. I wouldn't really trust them too much but you can do a winter with them. I bucked up this year and got a second set of winters.

Yes but our Sis get Goodyear Eagle Sport all-season tires. I guess we'll see how they do this winter.

I like option 1.

Sorry I thought the they had the same tires as the the sport/sport touring here in Canada. My point still stands though.

At least for 2017-SI, it comes with Eagle All-Season. Not sure about 2018.

I am replacing the stock all season with winter tires on stock rim and getting a nicer/lighter set of rim and summer tires in spring. I should be able to see the stock all season some money without any problems. Reason is want to keep the stock rims as i like how it looks so using it for winter but i want something wider and lighter for summer for better traction and response.

also I have not tried the stock all seasons on snow yet (got the car in Aug only) but imo any snow tires will be significant better traction than the stock tires in snow, but in the other hand, we havent been seeing many snow days in GTA for a few years now.

Agreed.
Also, 17-inch tires will be better than 18-inch for snow driving.
The tires will have less snow to plow.......

Yes, good option.
I posted a message in the Classified section for 17-inch alloys.

Winter tires for the stock wheels are $300 each? That seems quite overpriced.

These are Enkei 08w17tba300 alloy wheels.
I called other tire places nearby, I can get Enkei for approx. $200-250 each. I do not know the model.

Why do you want to pay so much for winter wheel? Just asking, not judging.

I did #2, bought Summer 18" wheels and transferred all seasons to them, then put new winters on OEMs.
