I have half a small tube of Permatex brake lube left from dirt bike maintenance. Tire rotations are coming up soon and I thought it would be a great time to lube the right parts.

I believe the front brake pads will come off without any special tools so their piston facing sides can be lubed.

I read https://www.civicx.com/threads/i-replaced-my-pads-and-my-rotors.14898/ which is excellent but it is unclear to me whether I need any special tool to get the rear brake pads out.

Have only done this kind of lubing on a dirt bike, your knowledge appreciated.

I wouldn't bother with grease on the back of the pads, as they get really hot when braking and will just burn off.. and may cause it to get on your rotors when doing so which will then contaminate your brake pads... the only thing that you really need to clean up and re-grease is the sliding pins in the caliper bracket.
