When I was younger, I bought and also preferred an Si in 2 door coupe manual form. Now that I'm an older family man, I want a 4 door sedan automatic Si. Make it happen Honda!

Aww.. I'm disappointed! Oh well, thanks for the news!

Do you all think the manuals in the base models will come out first before the SI? Wish they would come out with a manual for the touring but I'm doubting they will, heh.

Other notes:
  • Standard Coupe and Hatchback will be 2016MY.
  • Type R should be released Spring-Summer 2017.
  • All markets will be getting the sedan, coupe and hatchback.
  • Type R will be available in most, but not all markets.
that includes Europe?

My guess is it will come out at the same time. They'll introduce the Si and at the same time announce more standard models will have manual too.

Thanks! That's kind of what I was afraid of. Will be needing a car within the next 6 months, oh well, win some and lose some, heh.

BS! Please back this statement up....the 1.5T being nearly as quick as an Si doesn't mean it's faster
Well, I'm assuming that the info he is going off of is Edmunds testing.

Here is the 2015 Civic Si testing by Edmunds:

The Civic Si sports a 2.4-liter four with 205 hp and 174 lb-ft. A six-speed manual is the sole transmission offered. Fuel economy estimates for the Si stand at 25 mpg combined (22 city/31 highway). At the test track, a Civic Si coupe sprinted to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds, about average for a sport compact in its price range.

And here is the Edmunds test of the 2016:

There's an all-new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that comes standard on the EX-L and Touring trim levels and is optional on the EX trim. It produces 174 horsepower and fundamentally changes the Civic's driving character.

The Civic was previously one of the slowest compact sedans both in terms of our instrumented testing and how it felt in the real world. There was little in the way of low-end power — the feeling of being pushed into your seat — and one had to be aggressive with the throttle to get much of a response.

With the new turbocharged engine, there's a broad band of torque from 1,700 rpm all the way to 5,500 rpm. You have power whether you're pulling away from a traffic light or passing on the freeway. In our instrumented testing, the turbocharged Civic went from zero to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. That's big news given that it took the previous Civic we tested 9.0 seconds to make the same run.

Yes, everyone tests different and gets varying results but this example is testing by the same group at least. Average testing of the 16 Turbo seems to be 7.0 seconds but it varies too of course. The best times I could find for the last Si was 6.5 seconds (as a note the ILX with the DCT is actually slower by two tenths of a second when compared side by side at car and driver). That said over at VTEC.net 6.5 seconds has been recorded by the Jeffx there too in the 16 Touring. They are pretty close and pretty fair to say the performance is close enough to be as fast, or faster than the older Si. Bodes very well for the next Si!

Probably a smidge slower than the outgoing Si when all is said and done.

The rumor in the OP is about what I'd expect, and what I've been socializing here and on other boards. Looks like Honda is taking extra time to get the 2.0 right. And I suspect the culprit is the advanced release of the 1.5T.

One more thing... we really need to get out of the habit of saying the Si is getting a "detuned" version of the Type R motor. Almost everything except for the block and valve cover will likely be different.
